My first first-author paper is out! aslopubs.onlinelibrary.wiley… Using 224Ra/228Th disequilibrium we show that benthic macrofauna impact benthic fluxes of macronutrients (variability between species and individuals), and that traditional approaches may miss out key flux drivers.

We have completed the most amazing experience: School on the Blue Economy in the Arctic. Started with meeting the wonderful people of Kuujjuaq and ending with a choppy 10 day experience on the CCGS Amundsen. @UoS_OES @philbenthos @Marianne_Fa @izzcoops #BlueEconomyArctic

That's a wrap! End of 3-month research placement working @BAS_News. Examining effects of trawling on zoobenthic carbon storage in the Barents Sea. Learnt lots (taught a few things about #diversityinstem) and met some great people. Results looking v interesting, watch this space!

Can confirm that @UK_CEH have been very welcoming and accommodating to Luna and I. Great course too! 🤯
Our #training team takes pride in providing training for a #diverse audience. We ensure that whatever your background or needs, you can access & enjoy our training. On this occasion, Luna, the assistance dog, was somewhat overwhelmed by the complexity of Baysian theory. #EDI

Fascinating paper by great people @sanders_trystan @ProfBenthos @GodboldJasmin Trait variation within species can exert a greater influence in functioning than between species. We need to think about how we classify organisms wrt functioning @ExeterMarine @unisouthampton
🚨 NEW PAPER! 🚨 Future climate conditions and increased individual densities suppress per capita contributions to seafloor ecosystem functioning. @CommsEarth #benthicecology #functionaltraits #ecosystemfunctioning link.springer.com/10.1038/s4…

In the face of the warmest July on record, record low sea ice cover in Antarctica, the awful Mediterranean wildfires, the destructive floods worldwide, and the countless other climate-related horrors, this is absurd, disgusting, and hugely damaging. @JustStop_Oil #EndFossilFuels
Today we are saying no to @JustStop_Oil and their political wing the Labour Party  We will power ahead with new oil and gas because it’s in the best interests of the British people, of our economy and of our national security

Great stuff! Using radium as a tracer is a major part of my work, looking at fluxes between sediments and the water column.
Great 3-min clip from GEOTRACES on the use of radium as an ocean chronometer! Radium is a unique tool for tracing sedimentary influence, which we can use to calculate fluxes of other sediment-derived material to the ocean, such as iron

Shiny deep-sea sediment! 😍 A good way to use up remnants from sampling!
We left PAP today so got busy making some deep-sea dorodangos, a little piece of the PAP to take home 🥰🔮
