It is entirely natural in origin, its orbit is as expected and it will whizz around the sun and then disappear off into the galaxy again. If it ever encounters another inhabited solar system in the far future I hope the living things there are more sensible than us and enjoy it for what it is - a visitor from elsewhere in the galaxy - a pristine lump of rock and ices which formed around a distant, maybe long-dead star billions of years ago and many light years away, just passing through. Mental health services are in crisis. 873,117 under 24-year-olds were in contact with mental health services at the end of May in England - a 10% increase from the previous year. And the highest recorded number since records began in 2016. 377,017 under 18s are still waiting for their first contact with services. They have waited an average of 276 days to be seen, up from 200 days since last year. This needs to be a wake up call for our Government. Young people should not have to wait 250 days to get the support they need. The Government says cutting waiting times is a priority. We need to see more evidence that applies to mental health services for young people. They should urgently roll out Young Futures Hubs in every local area – including a full mental health offer, where young people can get support on the day, without needing a GP referral or appointment. And they need to start addressing the drivers of poor mental health - like poverty and the education system. We need a Government that has the ambition it promised a year ago, one that knows it needs to work across Government and shows young people that it cares about their future and their mental health.
