The City of LA was dealing with a massive backlog of storm-water permits. They looked at the evidence and determined: 1. Small residential developments don't produce that much stormwater runoff 2. The city spends significant resources reviewing stormwater plans for small developments 3. LID requirements add costs that make it harder to build new housing 4. In 2018, LA County voters passed Measure W to treat stormwater county-wide, so project-specific measure are less necessary So the city just went ahead and completely removed LID requirements from small developments I'm kinda shocked. You don't normally see LA reducing regulatory burden to make it easier and cheaper to build housing

Ahead of Waymo's robotaxi launch in LA, I took a wild ride in one through DTLA with @alschaben. A Suburban driver tried to ram us, there was some close moments to tents on Skid Row and I couldn't suppress my backseat driver voice, as useless as it was. latimes.com/california/story…

Money will be used to fund fencing, security services, fire safety upgrades, graffiti abatement and other measures. City also is working with its City Attorney to come up with a legal strategy to recoup expenses.
