How about a crypto coin where mining each coin is the cost of purchasing a single acre of a rainforest and not developing it? We can make it a deflationary asset where the total number of coins is the number of acres we need to not die.

Jonas Salk developed the polio vaccine. He was asked if owned the patent. His reply: "There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?"
If I cure cancer I will get very rich. And a bunch of people on this site will apparently find my sudden wealth outrageous.

Zohran Mamdani has only been in office for 6 months and he's already broken the Knicks' 53-year championship drought. Once again, socialism wins.

Residential solar has been hamstrung in like 30 states by legacy power providers.
the fact that we didn’t go all in on solar power the second we discovered it is still so crazy to me

Dudes entire fortune was bootstrapped off that debt.

Elon created $1 trillion of value. Congress created $39 trillion of debt. Elon’s wealth is not the problem…

Most of the international posts I've seen are just dunking on our government, our infrastructure, and airport security.
World Cup tourists fall in love with middle America — raving about Waffle House at 1 a.m., Buc-ee's gas stations, and strangers driving them to stadiums in the rain. Oxford Economics expects 1.24 million international visitors for the tournament, and their viral posts are showcasing a side of the country most foreign media never covers.

The people are alright, it's the leadership that sucks.

The World Cup just proves that people around the world want to chill, drink, eat, and bullshit together

I want a refund on every minute I spent in 8th grade learning that monopolies are illegal and that our government would protect us from greedy men....

Free chips and salsa hasn't existed in a meaningful way in PDX since like 2004, but I love this vision of America.
USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving. Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free. I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these." "They just come with the table, man." They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner. This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat. I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared. "Did we…?" "Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless." Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined. My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude." Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man. I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy. Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived. I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most. Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.

Perpetually amused that critics of socialism don't understand that socialism isn't the absence of luxury, it's luxury that is accessible to everyone.
Reminder: Zohran and his family keep an extra luxury home in Uganda in a neighborhood surrounded by armed security because everyone else is so poor.

And when we say Tech we don’t mean they invented a cure to cancer. Tech is increasingly a synonym for a particular industry that these days barely innovates x.com/Joeyrandomguy/status/2…

8/10 are tech guys. 9/10 Americans. The only two non tech people are Arnault and Walton.

The Mississippi versus UK thing is funny and I think it's worth discussing in a longer essay that I'm writing on Britain's decline, so I've removed the thread from yesterday for now. But for now here are the headline graphics.

This was a thing I noticed after moving to the West coast, people here are "less racist," but they also basically haven't interacted with other races, and in some ways they're more racist internally, they just no not to use a hard "r."

Thing is their standards are usually a bunch of etiquette nonsense rather than say actual harmful discrimination. Working white people in the South might be less PC but they work alongside minorities and live closer to them too than some New England gated communities.

The Socialist president of Mexico has an 82 percent approval rating. They know the answer, they just don't like it.
I can't tell if these people are liars or just obtuse. In 2020, Latinos clearly told Democrats what they want, and they helped Bernie Sanders win the Nevada and California primaries. The Democrats told them they don't matter in the slightest, only South Carolina does.

Ai is great for MVPs and awful for scalable infrastructure, or complex financial tasks.
More AI-generated code doesn't make your team faster. It might actually slow you down.

Platner is not the best candidate I can imagine, but Tim Scott got run out of the 2024 Presidential primary after having to invent a Canadian girlfriend.
Today marks the beginning of the end for Graham Platner. He will be exposed, his agenda destroyed, and Mainers will reject him. No amount of DC Democrat support or left-wing billionaire backing will save him. The choice in Maine is clear and nothing will be taken for granted.

I think this probably says more about who Apple thinks they can apply political pressure to than anything else. China is absolutely cooking the US and EU on reigning in the excesses of corporations.
Apple publishes a full-page press release blaming the EU for the delayed Siri AI launch in the region, while China got one footnote treatment for the similar delayed Siri AI launch
