God saves you. God sees you. God sustains you. So much can be fueled by meditating on these truths. (Hebrews 6:9-12)

Christian leaders, we can learn a lot from the stupid and degrading comment made about Michelle Obama at the UFC event last night. It may not have been your thing but for the most part, the event was honoring of our country and Christ was clearly exalted. But, a comment like that is what makes the headlines. I notice these things happening a lot with leaders; 99% of what they say is great but then their pride comes out in a comment or reply to get a reaction from the crowd, and that is what people remember. May we never forget to be slow to speak!

Performing hermeneutical gymnastics to defend women in pastoral roles does not help your position, it weakens it. Deborah as a judge, Women proclaiming the resurrection, Priscilla going with her husband to address Apollos on the side....does not speak to women as pastors at all!

I say this as someone who is concerned with overzealous enforcement of the SBC Truth and Unity amendment.

I will have more to say about my takeaways from #sbc26 next week. For now, I’ll just say I’m grateful to return home to my local church who is committed to making disciples in our town and to the ends of the earth!

Thank you @pastorclint for walking worthy as our President for the past two years! #sbc25
“We need to learn to hate pride” -@pastorclint Say it louder for the person in the back…and the person who is always coming to the mic..and the person who is always tweeting, with a spirit of arrogance, control and divisiveness. Humility is the greatest correction needed in our Baptist family. #sbc26

I serve on the subcommittee that approved recommendations for future locations. The suggestion that locations are chosen with some hidden agenda is silly. I wasn't able to be at the meeting where we chose Anaheim for two years, but I can say that I thought being in Texas 3 times and in New Orleans was absolutely being in the south. I am not excited to go to St. Louis and Indy multiple times but it is very complex to choose locations large enough, that can host us in our specific week, and that are cost efficient. But hey, you can disapprove locations, and the EC will have to figure it out! #sbc26

I took this pic of our two candidates for President at a meeting in April. We have two great choices this year. Personally, I have known @WillyRice for nearly 20 years. He has always been full of conviction, compassion and clarity. Some of the people championing him make me nervous, but he doesn’t. I have even reached out to him about a few things we don’t fully agree on and his response has been one of humility and unity. I think him being in the room will regain the confidence of a lot of people who are “normal baptists” not engaged in Twitter arguments and for those reasons and more, I’ll be voting for him in Orlando. #sbc26

I am neutral about the Truth and Unity amendment. I am not sure that it is going to end the debate. On one side, people are going as far as thinking that you can't even call a women's minister, minister. On the other side, people are ok with a woman doing anything as long as she isn't the senior pastor. I think our line on this needs to be clearly defined, and I am not sure this amendment is understood as doing that. #sbc26

I baptized Zeke in January and have been meeting with him to walk through basics of Christianity every other week. He is leading a Bible study for guys at his work and God is using him in a great way among non-Christians and young Christians who serve in the Air Force. Pray for him to continue to grow to be a godly husband and leader. The role of pastor certainly involves more than spending time discipling people, but it should never be less than that!

I don't like resolutions. I wish we would stop doing them. But, I realize I am in the minority and I concede. I will say that, in my opinion, this is the best group of resolutions I have seen. #sbc26

I don't post a lot these days, but with #sbc26 next week, I am going to share some thoughts for the next 10 days. I care deeply about our cooperation and feel like I have some insight from serving on the EC for the last two years and being involved in our state work as well.

I will begin with a link to our podcast where our college interns ask us questions about the SBC. I think the questions these young baptists ask, are more insightful than our answers to the questions: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

Last Tuesday, our oldest, Cam, started running a fever and having chest pains again. Fortunately, what was supposed to be his last follow up appointment with cardiology was scheduled for the next day. Unfortunately, that appointment revealed that pericarditis had reoccured. They put him on high dose steroids and scheduled him to return today for follow up. His heart is responding to the steroids and he will continue on them for a total of 28 days. He has to continue on the anti-inflammatory for a total of 6 months instead of 3, and he is back to no physical activity until the steroids can be tapered, and his condition can be re-evaluated. Obviously this is not how he wanted to spend the summer before his senior year but we are grateful there is a plan and he is getting good care. We are also grateful for how we see God shaping him through all of this. We appreciate prayers for his continued recovery, and for no long term damage to his heart. Love you all!
