Popping back in to say if you're feeling helpless about the current governmental horrors, the 5calls.org website is super easy—it'll look up the phone numbers of your reps and provide you talking points based on your chosen issues.

I can't remember the exact quote or who said it, but I love the idea that even if you don't love any candidates, voting is about choosing your opponent. Who do you want to be pushing to change? Who's going to be easier to sway to your view, or more likely to make concessions?

It's the perfect month for a supernatural sapphic fake-dating rom-com! A curmudgeonly teenage ghost hunter finally finds a ghost... but the ghost won't help her get famous unless she agrees to take his little sister to prom. 😵‍💫👻😬 jameslsutter.com/novels.html

In 2015, by virtue of having a recently abandoned army barracks, my declining hometown of ~10,000 received more than 2,000 refugees. Almost ten years later, it has more doctors, restaurants, and lively playgrounds than anyone can remember. The shrinking school stayed open.
If you think "dumping" a "flood" of immigrants on small towns is awful, please tell me your plan to save those places. Because I've been looking for alternatives for a decade, and immigrants are really the only thing that saves these towns from decline. noahpinion.blog/p/how-will-y…

A weird thing about living in an American city is that just now my wife and I were having a conversation, paused at the unmistakable sounds of a drive-by shooting nearby, then resumed our conversation.

It truly feels like farce—Seattle isn't even a particularly dangerous city! This neighborhood is full of families and bougie artisanal ice cream! But at some point the shootings become so commonplace that it's just not worth calling it in unless you see it or it's REALLY close.

My mom—a young professional women in the 70s and 80s—always told the story of trying to buy a car from a dealership and being refused unless she could present a man to cosign.

We have people in office that were adults during a time when women couldn’t open their own bank account. It wasn’t unlawful to sexually harass women at work until 1986. Feminism isn’t an antiquated ideal. The idea that women are equals is still new.

This shit hasn't vanished. Many years ago, my chronically ill wife started bringing me along to doctor's appointments because we noticed doctors were way less dismissive when I was in the room.
