This Green councillor has, rightly, been told to educate herself on the law.
After comparing the belief that there are only two sexes to Holocaust denial, sheās had to undertake training on the Equality Act and the councillorsā code of conduct.
Her comments were made in support of the cancellation of a public talk at Stroud Brewery by journalists Jo Bartosch and Robert Jessel, authors of Pornocracy, a book examining the influence of pornography on society.
The event was cancelled following objections linked to the authorsā gender-critical views.
Iāve learned, first-hand, that many of those who oppose gender-critical beliefs are unable or unwilling to engage with the arguments themselves. Instead, they often resort to emotional appeals, personal smears and wildly disproportionate comparisons.
Comparing people who hold legally protected beliefs to Holocaust deniers is a good example.
Whatever your views on sex and gender, those things are not remotely equivalent.
Good to see Stroud District Council taking seriously the fact that gender-critical beliefs are protected in law and that elected representatives should understand that.
