In 1930, Richard Carline sailed to Venezuela with his brother Sydney and the artist, John Duguid, in one of the last of the great square-rigged ships, the Grace Harwar. This work was first sketched and then painted from the ship's foremast in the Mid-Atlantic.

life's hidden beauty
'Two Lemons and a Lime Wrapped.' Eliot Hodgkin painted still lifes over and over throughout his career and used various objects as the basis for experimentations with shape, colour, lighting, and placement; each reminding us of life's hidden beauty. This from 1965.

flowers of june on friday
“What is one to say about June, the time of perfect young summer, the fulfilment of the promise of the earlier months, and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.” — from ‘On Gardening’ by Gertrude Jekyll (1843–1932) #FlowersOnFriday

Forster (1879-1970), auteur van verfilmde boeken als 'A Passage To India' en 'A Room With A View'. Dat uitzicht verwijst ook naar het advies van Forster om een ruimere kijk op het leven te hebben. Zijn motto was 'Only connect...', zoek de verbinding.

peace found in the Austrian
Replying to @impression_ists
Every summer from 1897 to 1917, Gustav Klimt fled Vienna for Lake Attersee. There, he traded society portraits for green landscapes. This era blended Vienna Secession style with bold Post-Impressionism. Inspired by Van Gogh and Seurat, It was peace found in the Austrian Alps.

... stillness, silence, containment, privacy, meditation, illumination.
'The Landing in Summer.' Mary Dawson Elwell emerged on the British art scene as a painter of interiors, or more accurately, 'portrait interiors,' of her Yorkshire home in the 1930s. Her watchwords are stillness, silence, containment, privacy, meditation, illumination.
