And kids will continue to access social media. The only way to kerb harm from shit algorithms and DAF AI is to rein in tech oligarchs, legislate, not banning kids. Banning kids because the government is too gutless to take on tech bros is seriously fucked up.
Despite the government’s claims, many under 16s are still accessing social media, and therefore still at risk on those platforms.
We need a digital duty of care to make platforms limit their harmful features and monitor content better. We can learn from the effective models already up and going in the UK and EU.

The Australian Federal Police have begun investigating sexual assault and torture of eleven Australian activists detained after their Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla was intercepted in May.
The investigation follows a meeting between Foreign Minister Penny Wong and the activists in Canberra on Monday. This comes one month after the UN added Israel to its blacklist for sexual violence in armed conflict.
Italy, Canada, Germany and France have also opened investigations into accounts from their nationals kidnapped from the same flotilla.

The Israeli Supreme Court, supposedly the last bastion of Israeli "democracy", just signed Dr Husam Abu Safiya's death warrant.
The court rejected his appeal and ordered for the continuation of his unlawful detention, knowing full well that he is being held in abhorrent conditions, without cause or indictment and being subjected to torture on a regular basis.
Hostage taking, torture, rejection of the most basic human rights; with this kind of democracy, who needs fascism?

Britain's defence ministry said it was "investigating reports of an incident in the Channel", as a UK defence source told AFP a yacht had reported a Russian warship firing warning shots.
The incident apparently took place about 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight just outside British waters.
It came days after UK commandos intercepted and boarded a suspected Russian shadow fleet vessel in the same part of the Channel, in the first such UK-led operation.

The Euro Med Human Rights Monitor announced the closure of its office in the Gaza Strip after nearly 15 years of field work, as part of a series of precautionary measures it has recently taken amid official Israeli threats and punitive actions against the organization and its staf.
The center has been carrying documenting acts of genocide committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip since October 2023.
Euro Med stated that the Israeli campaign has focused on targeting its leadership, staff, and members through individual and collective defamation campaigns and ongoing incitement to take action against them.
