Our study is now in print! We examined genetic divergence between bee- vs. hummingbird-pollinated populations of #penstemon and find they're all mixed up ... surprisingly few loci distinguish the two types!
My lab is looking to hire a postdoc to study the impact of plant microbe/microbiome interactions on local adaptation and species distributions and how this information can be used to enhance prairie restoration.

Ready to share this preprint about the basis of a shift from egg-laying to live-birth in Littorina. We find evidence for live-bearer specific sweeps at many loci, overlapping with genes that are differential expressed btwn reproductive systems. pls share!

Very much looking forward to another speciation seminar talk next Tuesday, 9-10.30 am CET. Claire Mérot and Kohta Yoshida will speak on the role of chromosomal inversions in speciation. Join us for 1h talks 30min discussion. Zoom link: speciation-network.pages.ist…
Volunteers wanted for 2023 season ! Contribute to the Barton groups long-term study of speciation in the Spanish Pyrenees! Great opportunity for students to experience fieldwork. All costs and travel within Europe/UK are covered. See the ad for details:
Really enjoying my collaborative visit to the @jay_sobel lab at SUNY Binghamton! Amazing (and amazingly helpful) students and faculty (so great to see Jay again), nice research and teaching glasshouses, and looking forward to Friday's grad student research symposium.
Calling all speciation researchers! Our next IOS seminar is next week 20th September 5pm CET. Anna Qvarnstrom and @jay_sobel will be giving us their thoughts on the challenges of measuring reproductive isolation. Link on website: speciation-network.pages.ist… Please spread the word!
The paper describing GENESPACE is out today in @eLife. doi.org/10.7554/eLife.78526
We show how you can integrate synteny and orthology to uncover some cool stuff: autosome-sex chromosome fusions, inversions underlying QTL, homeologous exchange, and much more!
We are hiring a postdoc and technician/project manager for our newly-funded NSF project on the interplay between selection, pleiotropy, and drift. The work integrates population genomics, molecular genetics, and extensive fieldwork with collaborators in Sweden, Spain, and Italy!
Speciation seminars are back from the summer break! On 20 September, at 5 pm CET, we will have a seminar by @QvarnstromLab and @jay_sobel on the challenges of measuring reproductive isolation. Sign up to the speciation network mailing list to join: speciation-network.pages.ist…
