When Catholics say, “We don’t worship Mary”, the Evangelical hears something like, “I don’t beat my wife” or “I didn’t escape from prison”. Denying a terrible accusation can make it seem somewhat credible.
On my journey to the Catholic Church, I heard some Catholics respond to this accusation differently: “Why do you have a problem with Jesus’ MOM?”
This disrupted my thinking. I DID have a problem with her, but I didn’t know why. I thought of her as an insignificant side character, but that didn’t make any sense—because nobody’s mom is an insignificant side character!
