I'm working through Polyani's *Great Transformation.* Wow. How have I never heard of the Speenhamland System in the context of recent debates over UBI? It seems very relevant.

Today I'm sharing thoughts about Magnifica Humanitas and discernment @FrontPorchRepub, with the help of some Teslas and horse-drawn buggies. Come for the Amish, stay for the whole FPR series on MH (see pieces so far by @estice & @alexsosler )!

This strikes me as simply false. But I'd love to read more on this line of thinking, particularly if it included particular examples rather than aspirational generalities.

Yes! My forthcoming book aims to think through the implications of this Christian anthropology for AI. And as Harper notes, there's plenty of good work to draw from in this endeavor.
Pope Leo and other Christian thinkers have captured the gravity of the AI revolution in a way that many secular thinkers have not, @Tyler_A_Harper argues. theatlantic.com/culture/2026…

Yes! This is a wonderful book, one that always moves me when I re-read and teach it.
One of the strange experiences of reading Death Comes for the Archbishop is that it is a book about, besides the Southwest, Catholicism, Native Americans, friendship, etc., about good people living lives struggling to do good, leading full, good lives. Highly unusual in a novel!
