Living a higher standard offends people. Pursuing greatness offends people. Avoiding mediocrity offends people. That's okay. “Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people.” — Nick Saban Reject average.

Professional development season: where experienced educators gather annually to demonstrate they have not suddenly forgotten everything they learned the previous 23 years. After years of annual Bloodborne Pathogens training, I'm convinced the real pathogen is the video you have to watch.

Great teams aren’t destroyed by what’s outside them—they’re destroyed by what gets inside. Negativity, excuses, selfishness, and division create leaks that can sink any team. Protect the ship. Protect the brotherhood. #DMGB #GreenWaveFootball #TwinThieves #ProtectTheShip

Looking back on the spring season, I want to take a moment to recognize the work being done to maintain our practice field at Gallatin High School. Despite significant and constant use, the field continues to provide a safe and reliable surface for our student-athletes. This spring, the field has supported a wide range of programs and activities, including spring football, flag football, track practice (due to the absence of a dedicated track facility), physical education classes, offseason training, camps, and other school-wide use. The level of daily activity places considerable demand on the field and requires ongoing attention to maintain safe playing conditions. I also want to be clear about the resources behind this work. Our field maintenance program is not supported by a dedicated budget. All equipment, fertilizer, chemicals, and materials used to maintain the field are purchased through fundraising efforts and the generosity of our community and business partners. Because of that, continued support is essential. If we want to maintain and improve the quality of the playing surface for all students who use it, ongoing community and business investment is critical. Those contributions directly impact field conditions and the overall experience and safety of our athletes and students. I want to thank everyone who has supported these efforts and continues to invest in our programs. Your support makes a measurable difference every day. We remain committed to doing everything we can to provide the best possible environment for our students.

Really sad news in the college basketball world as official Kevin Driver passed away over the weekend. Driver, 51, worked in the OVC for years and his final game was the OVC title game between Tennessee State and Morehead State. Driver also worked games in the Missouri Valley, the ASUN, the SoCon and the Sun Belt in his career.

One of the biggest mistake HS freshmen & sophomores make in recruiting? Worrying about exposure before they have any actual ability. Stop paying $1,000 for showcases when you can't hit a varsity fastball yet. Get in the weight room. Develop first. The exposure will follow.

Play ball with me for a moment… crazy concept loading from a distant observer: A teenage referee might miss a call at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes youth flag football game. Shocking, I know. Even crazier concept: A grown adult should still know how to act in public. Which one of those two happened? These refs are kids. The players are kids. This league is built around faith, sportsmanship, and development. Yet every weekend there are adults screaming from the sidelines like the outcome is deciding the Super Bowl. Your child is watching how you respond to adversity. The other kids are watching too. And trust me… every parent standing around is silently wondering why a grown adult is losing emotional control over a missed call in 9U football. If a teenager officiating a game can keep composure better than the adults sitting in chairs or coaches on the sideline, that should probably tell us something. It’s FCA flag football. Not the SEC Championship. Act accordingly.

Our football program was recognized by the TSSAA with the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award for earning a team GPA between 3.0–3.25. In a world where people are quick to judge or stereotype, these young men continue to show what Gallatin truly stands for — hard work, accountability, toughness, and excellence in the classroom. I’ll say it proudly every single time: Gallatin High School has the best kids, the best faculty, the best administration, and the best community in Sumner County. Now, are all of them perfect? Heck no. But neither are any of us. What I do know is this — our kids care, they compete, they overcome adversity, and they continue to grow into great young men every single day. These players don’t just represent our program on Friday nights — they represent it every day in the halls, in the classroom, and in this community. Beyond proud to be their football coach.

Integrity and Leadership During the Delta Force stress phase of the selection process, our rucksack required weight increased from 45 to 50 pounds and finally to 55 pounds. We ran solo through unforgiving terrain with our rucksack, a weapon, a map, and a compass. We were not allowed to use roads or trails. A few people would attempt to cheat the system and take a road or trail, thinking that they would get by with it. They did not know that cadres were watching. They were allowed to finish the course, but at the Commanders Board, they would be asked if they had used a road or trail. If they lied, they were immediately removed from the selection process. It was much better to own up to cheating the system than lying about it. Our moral compass is as important as our real compass. Before anything we attempt in life, it always turns out better to keep our moral compass, in other words, our integrity, as close to the vest as our directional one. Integrity, our personal character, is one of the foundational cornerstones of leadership.

The Sound of a Losing Culture. I hear it in the dugout during games. A player strikes out looking on a borderline pitch. He walks back to the bench tosses his bat and starts the script: "Blue has a flight to catch," or "The sun was right in my eyes." The coach nods just to stop the noise. The teammates shrug because they do it too. But the standard of the program just dropped another inch. You think you’re just "venting." Everyone else sees a player who is too soft to own his failure. The 3 Lefts Mental Audit: • The Excuse Subsidy: Every time you blame the umpire, the sun, or the mound you are paying a tax on your own development. If it’s someone else’s fault you don't have to fix anything. And if you don't fix anything you stay exactly where you are Average. • The "Main Character" Delusion: The sun is hitting the pitcher’s eyes too. The umpire is missing calls for both sides. The game isn't out to get you it just doesn't care about you. Stop acting like the world is conspiring against your batting average. • The Respect Gap: You want your teammates to trust you in the 7th inning. Then stop acting like a victim in the 2nd. Real leaders don't look for someone to blame they look for a way to adjust. The game doesn't reward the player with the best reason It rewards the player who makes the most adjustments. If you want to be treated like an elite ballplayer, start acting like one when things go wrong. High-level players don't have bad luck they have short memories and a plan for the next pitch. Average players want the world to be fair. Ballplayers realize the dirt is dirty and they keep digging anyway. Stop auditioning for the victim role. Nobody is buying tickets to that show. #3LeftsBaseball #BaseballIQ
