They have the money. They do not have the wisdom or courage to cut the millions of dollars of waste in the school system (which is still there) or admit they miscalculated in formulating the budget. They blame the County Council instead of taking responsibility.

TY for your cogent testimony. Reform of MCPS Budget process is needed to prevent fiasco like this again. BOE member Montoya said”BOE DID NOT look at all options.” No matter what they say the Sup & BOE failed to exercise leadership and thus failed our students.

This is the most recent post from the MCPS BOE. It is really unacceptable that they do not post the time for BOE meetings here . This is the least they can do to fulfill their commitment to improving communication since they are having an important meeting today.
So much energy at #RespectFest2026! 💜 We loved seeing our @MCPS students engaged and learning how to build healthy relationships. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us to promote well-being and respect across our community! 💃

I was deeply unimpressed when @NationalPTA stayed on the sidelines during COVID, as parents took to the streets to get schools reopened. This, however, is a new low.
The National Parent Teacher Association actively pitched collabs with top social media companies -- taking tech $$$ in exchange for publicly touting to reporters and families that the platforms were safe and forces for good. TikTok paid the PTA millions: nytimes.com/2026/06/04/us/so…

They did the same thing when they defended their votes to close Wootton

The part that struck me is that each BOE member had a prepared speech to give before they voted. That means, they’d already made up their minds & that our testimonies really meant nothing. I know this is their MO & how they operate, but it’s still a gut punch every time. 2/

Education isn't just about years in school—it's about what students learn. A review of 73 studies in 41 countries finds that a 1 SD gain in cognitive skills is associated with ~15% higher earnings. Better learning, better livelihoods. link.springer.com/article/10… #EducationPolicy #Skills #EconomicGrowth

Great article. AI doesn't make knowledge obsolete - it makes it more essential. You can't spot AI hallucinations or think critically w/o a rich base of facts in your head. Thinking 'just Google it' was dumb before. In the AI era, it's malpractice. chalkbeat.org/2026/05/28/ai-…

EMU is too fast for the Maryland State Police! Another video of the EMU, and for any law enforcement officer, use this Troopers theory! It’s not worth the time, those things are just way too fast! Not today Mr. Trooper :)

Just had the warmest and friendliest knock on my door with reminders to vote and talk of issues important from @CherylKagan and @AdamVanGrack. I’ve disagreed with @CherylKagan on issues before but she continues to engage and discuss. Thanks for the knock at the door and chat!

Posting to hold @mocoboe accountable. They say when signing up 2 testify 2 designate agenda vs non-agenda. Link to agenda avail on signup pg only mins prior to the 6pm signup time, so little time to review b4 signing up. Best part? There’s no agenda link anyway.🤦🏻‍♀️ #incompetence

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5,000 years.

fewer than 10% of edtech tools have ever been independently studied for impact. mit researchers flagged it this month in a new audiobook trial. most of what shows up in classrooms has never been tested.

Excellent pro-parent change. Although some psyshometricians don't like a 100 point scale b/c they say it doesn't provide enough precision, that precision can be provided in the detailed report. The summative # has to be designed for a regular person, not PhD quants.
Starting next year SOLs will be on a 100 point scale and done in the last two weeks of the school year. These common sense changes increase transparency (who understands a 512 score?), learning and achievement while making the end of year more meaningful.richmond.com/news/state-regi…

If you suggest that kindergarteners are ready for more academic learning, you will get backlash from many in the education community, who're convinced that academics in K are not "developmentally appropriate." But asking elementary schoolers to have strong executive functioning—enough to avoid the distraction factor from Ed Tech—has somehow been normalized.

Is @MCPS really using the cohort of children most impacted by pandemic era prolonged school closures and their performance on math as justification for their removal of compacted math? By their own slides and data, it appears they are. This is slide 7 go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd…

Of note, @MCPS appears to have moved or taken down their documents of compressed and omitted content from 20-21, but here is news coverage of parent reaction at the time for those that need a refresh fox5dc.com/news/montgomery-c…

And more local coverage of the unique drop in 2021-2022 that MCPS is using as justification for cutting compacted math. Context and history is important. One of the advocates quoted here is now on the school board so has a vote in the matter: bethesdamagazine.com/2023/03…
