If I’m honest I have never really 'got' twitter. I was a late adopter & not had many good interactions or friendships, unlike online communities in the 90s/00s. The most interaction I ever had was from a photo of a squirrel, not from any discussions - serious or otherwise.

But, I have benefitted from a huge range of life changing educational people and resources. I have learnt so much, both in and outside of medicine. I have no intention of leaving twitter, just change how I use it. I’m going to treat twitter more like a passive news feed.

I have no rage against The Elon, it just seems like a moment to try another platform, to try and find a sense of community I never really got here. If twitter really does become the town square, I’ll continue to walk through it to hear what those on their soapboxes have to say!

So I’m giving a talk to a sixth form college about a career in medicine - what do you wish you had been told when you were back at school?

This is such an important topic (overdiagnosis, overtreatment) … and not just for oncology, but all medicine and surgery. Fantastic that this is entering the public discourse.

In Jan 2021, while having treatment for cervical cancer, I started filming myself. It started as a way to make sense of what was happening to me, but I soon realised there was a much bigger story, about how we approach cancer treatment in this country… telegraph.co.uk/health-fitne…
