My username elsewhere is typically @jjsanderson, as here. My up-since-the-90s, never-quite-mothballed blog is at quernstone.com. At some point I’ll add links from there to… wherever. Meanwhile: feed readers are the future. Everything old is new again.

It’s the annual ‘stop the muppets from wrecking another institution that’s just fine, thanks’ effort. Takes seconds to vote for the Trust’s recommendations, or there’s loads of detailed notes if you’re so inclined.
Members, you have until 11.59pm tomorrow. I don’t know about you but Restore Trust hasn’t knocked anything into me yet, and I’m feeling pretty great. Vote here shorturl.at/PnrfP

I’ve moved Twitter off the home screen of my phone, and replaced it with Blue Sky. Not expecting to be as active there as I once was here, but also expecting to be largely inactive here.

Wordpress is dreadful early-00s architecture that’s had a stranglehold on the web by being ‘just about good enough.’ A better platform might not have left room for Facebook, Twitter, et al. I hope we all now move to that better platform. Just as soon as we work out what it is.

What is going on with all these spammy and deceitful ads which bear no relation to their host brands? This one’s an apparent outdoor clothing company, linking to a ‘motorcycle’ site styled to look like the BBC. Layers of deceit. This isn’t an advert; what are they paying for?

Blimey. Hanna was a legend. Unhinged, obviously, but legendary. Sadly I post-date this era of displays (let alone his Red Arrows stint), though I saw him fly MH434 often enough. Great clip.

1971 Fairoaks Aerodrome, Chobham. Ray Hanna puts the 1943 Spitfire Mk. IX MH434 through her paces at the Tiger Club airshow. The kind of performance that will likely never be repeated.

Fair play to Islabikes for making it really easy to find an obscure spare part for a bike that's 12 years old and on at least its fifth child. They may have 'closed', but their spares operation is still the best in the business.

What a story! (Note the appeal for cycling-connected folks, in thread)
🥁For the last year, I’ve secretly been working on a brand new film, and I can finally tell you all about it. 🥁 It follows a group of amazing women who cycle in Africa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The film is 15 mins long. Deborah, Nadia and the others in … 1/9

210 cyclists (double speed!) - all ages and abilities, and all sorts of cycles (tandems, follow-mes, balance bikes, cargo bikes, etc) - all adding their voices, or their wheels, to the call for more, better, safer, family-friendly cycling infra. Oh, and 4 cars. #kidicalmass

Struggling to understand bitrot in a controller that's been stable for a decade. Turns out to be metal fatigue in a jumper wire.

…and just like that, the API design was incomprehensible. Kicker: I wrote the API. This morning.

Sam’s work is both tremendous and tremendously subtle - @Sonic_Pi is one of those rare tools which enables beginners without limiting them. I’d love to see it find a more stable financial footing.
Does your org have a budget for supporting Open Source projects? If so @Sonic_Pi could really do with your help right now. Please help us continue to deliver our mission of lowering the many barriers of entry to creative experiences with code for the next generation. DMs open.

Can anyone help Jamie work out what event he’s doing tomorrow?
Akward, but if you are coming to my talk in Glasgow tomorrow… can you let me know what it is and where? I have no details in my diary 😅

It’s that most horrifying time of the year for any academic: “Please remember to reset your password.”

Blimmin’ ace. Another corker from Matt’s brain.
A little tribute to my favourite magic duo.

Either Twitter’s algorithm has got distinctly worse in the last couple of weeks, or a raft of people I actually like have stopped posting here. Stating the obvious, I know.

Am I missing something, or does @DirectLine's website not actually give their telephone number anywhere? Seems odd, given their telephone character logo and, you know, the name of the business.
