When this district discovered that students with identical test scores could make radically different grades within the same building, it set traditional grading aside. Here’s how you too can make the switch to evidence-based grading: edut.to/3QnmXMS

Great idea!
Rather than grading homework, invite students to self-assess on three criteria: 1. I need more challenge. 2. I need more practice. 3. I need help. Start class in differentiated groups around these needs.

Yes!!
Tier 1 is IT. When it is where it needs to be, Achievement increases Misbehaviors decline Learning happens Stop throwing money, programs, interventions & the kitchen sink at Tiers 2 & 3. Tier 1 is where our work is & the problems get solved, And it requires intentional design.

Grades should match student learning. Seems simple, but it is not.
Kid scores 100% on a retest... Only given a 70%. For what possible justification do we put scores in the gradebook that do not match what a student knows? There is no average time to learn something. Punishing students for taking longer to learn something seems archaic

Kids don't plan to come to school to get into trouble. Behaviour is a form of communication and quite often - the reason for it will make you sad, not angry.

You really don’t have to do it all by yourself! It’s ok to ask for help, don’t let your ego leave you isolated. There is help! Just ask!

Thought of the day- sarcasm has no place in the classroom. None. It destroys far more relationships than it builds. It might be funny to a few, including you, but it’s terrifying to most. It decreases connection and engagement.

The end of the year is HARD, but this keeps it all in perspective.
Attention Teachers There’s a student who’s inspired by you. There’s a student who’s excited to see you. There’s a student who’s day is made when you make them laugh. A student who can’t wait to show up to your door each day. You are making a real difference. Never forget that.

Student conferencing is a powerhouse at all levels and content areas. Frequent check-ins help us keep a pulse on mental health issues, build relationships, provide opportunities for formative assessment and on-going feedback AND opportunities for intervention and enrichment.

I love this!!
#AwayForTheDay Challenge!! We had over 150 students take the challenge to put their phone away for the day! We also have several that left phones at home. One more way to be engaged in our school work & take time to eat and visit with our friends at lunch! #FultonProud #fmsteach
