The poorest way to face life is to face it with a sneer. There are many men who feel a kind of twisted pride in cynicism; there are many who confine themselves to criticism of the way others do what they themselves dare not even attempt. There is no more unhealthy being, no man less worthy of respect, than he who either really holds, or feigns to hold, an attitude of sneering disbelief toward all that is great and lofty. A cynical habit of thought and speech, a readiness to criticize work which the critic himself never tries to perform, an intellectual aloofness which will not accept contact with life's realities -- all these are marks, not as the possessor would fain to think, of superiority, but of weakness. - Theodore Roosevelt, 1910.

UT is dealing with a loss in state funding, constraints on the amount of tuition that can be charged, as well as “general cost pressures” including increased costs for gas and electric. toledoblade.com/local/educat…

Sen. @berniemoreno tells me he agrees with @GovMikeDeWine and personally opposes the death penalty, saying it’s “not something humans should do.” (stating the obvious here: Moreno doesn’t have a vote in the Ohio leg, but he’s among the highest ranking members of the Ohio GOP!)

Gerald Ford, dead today. Eaten by wolves.
Wenceel Pérez news: He was struck in the face by a plyometric band in the training room after Tuesday's game during his typical postgame routine. It was an accident. He remains under evaluation. #Tigers

they’re not jobs if they’re not valued. they’re not valued if there aren’t customers out there willing to pay them for their great work. needing the government to “create” a job is tantamount to welfare and that level of welfare resolves these individuals to a dependency on the government and lack of economic mobility. and chains our people, collectively, to a more indentured future. you may be well intentioned but you have, and always will, fail to see the destitute folly of government as a job creation engine. i have tried to engage you on this topic, in good faith, with empiricism and reasoning, but you have only dodged my points and pivoted to some populist refrain about the importance of taxation and the evils of productivity-driven success. i can only assume you’re dodging these truths because you and the rest of the politburo leadership have deemed the conversation unsafe speech and put your oligopoly at risk. let’s leave it at that then. perhaps if your ways get their day, we can all bask in the glories of the dark ages ahead.

The American South is one of the freest, friendliest, most prosperous, and yes least xenophobic places on the planet.
CNN did a segment on Freddy, the German soccer tourist, and sports analyst Christine Brennan claimed "I saw some conversation, Wolf and Pamela, about how the rest of the world is looking at the United States and feeling that we are—it's a foreboding image and that we are inhospitable...But how wonderful again, that sports can bring people here and show people that the United States and you know, the South is welcoming a German tourist in a way we would never have anticipated" Who is "we"?
