Have you ever heard of the location Wool River Falls? River Falls is an extremely generic location, as well as an American location. But my only suspicion is it could refer to the Nanaimo River, and the Cowichan Valley referencing wool. And this is about a century ago.

To answer my own question, I now think it does relate to the American location. It may have been misunderstood as Willow River Falls, written as Wool River Falls. I think that’s the best I can come up with!

Remember these two old houses on Hornby? The 1913 Vancouver Sun cartoonist Graham Hyde lived next door in a rooming house called the Bon Accord Hotel at 1235 Hornby, but by the following year, he was gone. The hotel survived till 1992, when it was destroyed by fire.

I went back thru my archives and added a dozen or so more images from my visit to Juul Haalmeyer's studio back in 2002. Juul spent a great deal of time with John Candy as well, and retold many fun stories of those days... flickr.com/photos/jmv/albums…

I tried to find Juul's mom Trudy's obit as well but it does not seem to show anywhere. In fact, she hardly made the news, but worked alongside Juul for much of his career & she does receive recognition for this in certain circles. It seems she lived circa 1920-early 2013.
