Saturday morning coffee and a read: Come Aug. 4, 60,000 parcels around LRT, BRT and MAX BRT Stations will be downzoned, despite transit zones being the widely suggested place to put more density. There is still no replacement plan. #yyc #calgary #yyccc buff.ly/QLBFhFm

“The real surprise from the OECD’s subsidy numbers is that it cost China less than $18bn in sectoral support over 15 years to build an industry that can now provide more clean power than the world can readily absorb.”

Very important to point out that he did not achieve this by increasing policing. Right wingers have no answer to this
New York City just had its safest first 5 months of a year in recorded history. Murders plunged 21%, and major crime overall is down 11%.

I have no problem with new health cards and combining it with your drivers license or ID, but adding citizenship status to it is incredibly sinister
One Card. That’s it. Starting July 2, Albertans can get a new driver’s licence or ID card that includes their healthcare number and proof of citizenship, all on one secure card at no additional cost. No more flimsy paper cards. No more carrying multiple pieces of ID. Just a common-sense change that makes life easier.

One of the biggest myths about Alberta independence is that Albertans would incur enormous and irreversible economic losses. No. Alberta will be a land that's fair and bright, where the handouts grow on bushes and you sleep out every night.

An independent Alberta would have boxcars that all are empty, and the sun shines every day, on the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees, and the lemonade springs where the bluebird sings.

In an independent Alberta all the cops would have wooden legs. The bulldogs will all have rubber teeth, and the hens will lay soft-boiled eggs. The farmer's trees will be full of fruit and the barns will be full of hay.

Genuinely difficult to wrap your head around the scale of the waste of resources in this era of world-historical crises. We're doing next to nothing about those, while the rich build a giant bonfire of money in the form of AI, campaign donations, etc.
The U.S. is now spending more on data center construction than on public transportation infrastructure, according to new Census Bureau figures out today (bloomberg.com/news/articles/…)

friendly piece of advice to anyone who is triggered by this: simply do not get more than 16 speeding violations in a year. if you can’t do that, then it’s honestly a skill issue and you deserve to have a speed limiter installed in your car
New Yorkers with 16 or more speeding violations will now have to install devices in their cars to limit their driving speeds. The device will use GPS tracking to restrict how fast the car can drive to the posted speed limit. The device will be wired into the vehicle's onboard computer. If drivers refuse to install the device, their registrations will be revoked after 45 days.

Here’s Jason Kenney applauding the National Post for giving a platform to residential school denialism and far-right conspiracy meant to attack and undermine this country’s future in truth and reconciliation. Read more: theconversation.com/we-fact-…
Full credit to the @nationalpost for having courageously told the truth about the Kamloops “mass grave” story at the height of the hysteria. Journalists and outlets who continue to lie or shade the truth about this only bring disrepute on themselves and their profession.

This is laughable, coming from someone who has been winking at the MAGA-aligned separatist movement for years. People who are losing sleep over climate change are not the ones tearing our country apart: we’re trying to save it. This summer Canada could well be burning faster than we can build it.
Danielle Smith lashes out at “the 14 cowards who signed a letter to the PM trying to derail our MOU,” along with NDP leader Avi Lewis and BC Premier David Eby, accusing them of “creating the environment we find ourselves in” when pressed if she is to blame for the state of national unity.

Weird, people say that ice cream helps you cool down, but it's clear that buying ice cream raises the temperature?
This needs to be posted from time to time. Bottom line, the more you build the more housing costs. Correlation is not causation but my god!
Community note
The observed correlation reflects reverse causation: high demand raises prices and prompts more construction, not vice versa. Studies show increasing housing supply moderates rent growth and lowers costs citywide. furmancenter.org/news/supply-sk… americanprogress.org/article/build-…
