After a bit of recovery, got the energy to write a longer form piece on the Genoa - Mont Blanc record.

My second big goal of the year: A speed record on Genoa - Mont Blanc. The route starts on the beach and after a cool 290 km on the bike you climb Mont Blanc from Courmayeur.

We climbed the first half of the final ridge in 30 minutes. Just 300 meters to climb. I wanted to slow down but William and Bepi were shouting encouragement to keep pushing. "This is the moment the record is made. Dai! Dai! Dai!"

And we made it! 14 hours 28 minutes 36 seconds. It really came down to the wire, taking a mere 14 minutes off the old record.
Like on Monte Rosa, the support team played a huge role and I leaned on them to get through the difficult moments.

Last week I set a new Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Genova - Monte Rosa winter route in Italy. This was one of my big personal goals for the year. The route starts at sea level, quite literally on the beach, and ends at the Capanna Margherita, the highest building in Europe.

Finally I made it, stopping the clock at 11h 52m 09s, taking 27 minutes off the old record.

And a big thanks to the support team! People were with me every pedal stroke / step of the way with food, water, a change of clothes, and a lot of encouragement when things seemed hopeless.
