It's not just the exploitation of a tragedy. JD Vance's picture of Britain - where migrants have led to a crime surge - is the opposite of the truth. comment.press/vance1234

» @LesEchos #EmmanuelMacron #FierteFrancaise

Complete chaos in Washington on what to do about Hormuz. The Iranians will surely conclude that they have deterred the latest US effort to get ships moving and that Trump is desperate for a deal before he goes to China. So they will toughen their negotiating demands.

Replying to @NicolasBaverez
@NicolasBaverez Un président marginalisé, une France inaudible.
Emmanuel Macron is the most popular leader in Europe. His vision for Europe and his way of leading thrills people far beyond the borders of France. What I know fo shur: Europe can‘t allow itself to lose such a personality in 2027.

Le Pen furious and worried that the model she and Jordan Bardella were going to offer to the French people next year - pretending to be European but wrecking the EU from the inside - has been rejected by the people of Hungary and will be rejected by the French as well

There was indignation in EU capitals and Brussels about the Trump administration’s declared policy of interference in European politics. The result in Hungary suggests that the MAGA message is toxic, not infectious

Many things to say about the demise of Orbanism but the scale of his defeat is impressive. This is surely also a rejection of Trump & Vance. The threatened new era of official US interference in European domestic politics has got off to a satisfyingly calamitous start

‼️🇭🇺🇪🇺 Here is a potted timeline thread marking some of the key milestones that built Prime Minister @PM_ViktorOrban illiberal democracy in Hungary over his 16 years in power. His tenure looks likely to end tomorrow. The table stakes for Hungary and Europe could not be higher 1/

President Macron last night publicly agreed with Iran - & disagreed with the US - that Israeli attacks on Lebanon must end if the fragile Gulf ceasefire is to hold. He was the first word leader to talk to the Iranian president Massoud Pezeshkian since the ceasefire was agreed 1/
I spoke today with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, as well as with U.S. President Donald Trump. I told both of them that their decision to accept a ceasefire was the best possible one. I expressed my hope that the ceasefire will be fully respected by each of the belligerents, across all areas of confrontation, including in Lebanon. This is a necessary condition for the ceasefire to be credible and lasting. It must open the way to comprehensive negotiations capable of ensuring security for all in the Middle East. Any agreement will have to address the concerns raised by Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as its regional policy and its actions obstructing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. This is how a strong and lasting peace can be built, with the support of all those who are able to contribute to it. France will play its full part, in close coordination with its partners in the Middle East. This is also what I discussed today in my exchanges with the leaders of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Iraq.

🇫🇷‼️ Speaking in a televised opening to a French defence council this morning, Macron said that French warships would be ready to "facilitate" the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz as soon as it was clear that the ceasefire was holding.

Good news in a troubled world. France is NOT necessarily drifting towards its first Far Right leader since 1944. Two polls now suggest that the former Centrist PM Edouard Philiippe could beat the Far Right in the 2nd round of the Presidential election next May. 1/
