insane thing about yesterday's national blackouts in Portugal was seeing 1st world status get erased in 5 minutes:
- without traffic lights, roads turn into free-for-all chaos
- after 2-3 hours, cell towers are out of backup power so they die too, zero connectivity
- supermarkets are all shut (probably better for them to claim insurance then try to operate)
- can only pay with cash, but all ATMs are out of power
power being out for 12 hours was ultimately fine, but extend that to 48 hours and can imagine the social fabric beginning to tear
