70 years on, I recall the misery of my imperfect letter formation in infant school. My wife's grandson is benefiting greatly from an approach that builds on what he can do and encourages him. A music inspector from ILEA told me, decades later, that most boys' fine motor skills are slower to develop than girls', which explains much about the disparity in neatness.
