I recently finished reading Edith Ellis's first novel, Seaweed: A Cornish Idyll (1898). A friend and peer of Carpenter's, I have been meaning to explore Ellis's writings for a while.
Full of Cornish flavour and dialect, a probing exploration of love and relationships.
After a year of teacher training, I'm excited to resume PhD study with this exciting conference. Honoured to be counted among these influential academics and writers.
Proud to have worked with @readwithaudrey on four audibooks of Oscar Wilde short stories. My content guides you through the meanings, themes, and contexts of the stories, making them accessible for all readers. The "listen along" starts 1st October and my stories from the 13th.
We're running a full October listen-along of Oscar Wilde texts, including his only published novel The Picture of Dorian Gray and a selection of six of his short stories from a similar period. Discussing on Discord as we go! Sign up here: xdr1eywek15.typeform.com/to/…
We, @b_yondthehuman & @jonathangreen_, are excited to launch The Edward Carpenter Researcher Circle. We aim to create connections and exchange ideas across all thinkers interested in Carpenter. Send us an email or head to our website for future news and ways to get involved.
Opening, for the first time in a while, Carpenter's autobiography, I found again this inscription. I always wonder about the people who leave behind their names in old books. I feel I am touching another life, crossing other journeys across the pages.

Edward Carpenter (1844 – 1929), a pioneer of LGBTQ rights, lived most of his life in and around Sheffield.
In a time when homosexuality was a crime, he lived openly with his partner George Merrill and wrote some of the earliest work supporting LGBTQ rights.

A remarkable anecdote from Edith Ellis about Carpenter. The scene captures the essence of Carpenter's 'queer ecotopia', as I term it: an ecology across sex, sexuality, and species centred at Carpenter's cottage.
Written 1913; published 1931 in Edward Carpenter: An Appreciation.
'Real love is only possible in the freedom of society; and freedom is only possible when love is a reality.'
