After a great year learning how to be the best dad I can be, I'm now looking for my next role.
With experience across fintech, small business, and developer tools, working in both familiar environments and cultures completely new to me. I've served as both an IC and hands-on director leading design and product teams. Building products from scratch, shipping my own code, talking directly with customers, developing teams with conviction, and even managing P&L.
I'm looking to apply these skills with a group willing to constantly question their understanding of the problems they're trying to solve and strive for profitability while doing it. Ideally you are a small team building something low and slow, rather than burning out in a blaze of hyper-growth glory.
If you know of anyone who might be looking for someone like me, do consider sharing this with them.

no great designer ever truly "one-shot" something and that goes for principles and values too. of which can only come from trial and error of expressing a strong point of view through your work.

if, as a designer, your main focus is on executing a process, and assuming that the process will form the opinions/shape the work for you, then you will likely feel behind.
start with an opinion first, even if it's not popular, or turns out to be wrong.

my contrarian first-principles take after 1 month in sf:
- taste is the new bottleneck
- being high agency is orthogonal to credentials
- the only non-trivial leverage left is shifting the overton window stochastically via the irl connection economy.

There are so many ways to handle this better...like "Hey, I'm a big fan of Linear so I made something inspired by their brand. I'd love to collaborate in the future."
