It’s becoming obvious that the most underrated skill in tech right now is taste, and you can’t prompt your way into it.

Alright, weird prediction but the personal website comes back hard in the next two years. When every feed is AI-generated mush, a corner of the internet that's verifiably one human's brain becomes super valuable again.

The amount of products that ask me to book a demo before showing me a price... ugh... like if I have to talk to a human to find out what it costs, the answer is no.

Might be a hot take, but "technical co-founder" is becoming a weird thing to look for.

All our tokens are belong to them.
Introducing Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model that we’ve made safe for general use. Its capabilities exceed those of any model we’ve ever made generally available.

Every time a new frontier model drops, a thousand startups find out they were a feature. Today's a good day to check if your moat is a moat.

I trust products built by people who clearly use them. It's like you can feel it in the details nobody would think to fake. Dogfooding isn't optional.

Just a friendly reminder that if you were subscribed to my newsletter, this would've landed in your inbox a week ago 😉 joncphillips.com/newsletter/

In 5 years (maybe 3), half the products we build won’t have a UI. They’ll have an API and an agent that talks to it. It’s becoming clearer by the day.

The more I build stuff the more I realize that the feature nobody asked for that drives the most signups is almost always an integration. People don't want your product. They want it to work with the thing they already use.

I figured it was time to add a new one to the collection. It's all your fault @ThePeterMick 😉 Should fit nicely next to my DW-H5600 when I receive it.
This Casio is your startup. Sell me this Casio.

I've been a little worried about AI eating into content and newsletters. So instead of sitting around worrying about it, I built an MCP server for DailyPhotoTips. Now a photographer can ask Claude or ChatGPT a photography question and get an answer pulled from 7 years of my content, plus the calculators and tools I built (depth of field, golden hour, star trail calculator, that kind of thing.) If AI is going to be the interface people use, I'd rather my stuff be inside it than fighting it. Was a fun little project, and honestly might be where content distribution is heading.

Made some improvements to @preflightsh, my little open source CLI tool. It catches leaked secrets, broken configs, expired SSL, missing SEO tags, security gaps, and 75 misconfigured services. You can now sign up for an account and keep a record of every scan you've run in your projects. It also gives you AI suggestions on how to fix whatever it catches.

You can signup here app.preflight.sh/signup and then just install the CLI if you haven't already. Then auth, init, and scan. And of course fix whatever it finds before you push to prod 😉
