Expect a lot more of this with Arthur Smith calling plays in Columbus this fall. OSU didn’t build off 12p zone schemes as much as I thought they should’ve last season, but I Smith’s hiring is a signal Ryan Day wants more of it moving forward.
Some very simple, very effective play sequencing off of wide zone by Ohio State. The key to offense is building off of things and making it all look the same. It's not just in design. It must be in personnel, formations, everything.

What makes Downs generational, though, is not that he is a freak athlete. Those are common. It's his ESP. It's his ability to know the entire route design almost instantly, and know exactly how to tailor his technique to it, even sometimes outside of his assignment.
In this I described Downs as "defensive stem cells." He is a blank check written out to whatever problem you need to solve. Anarumo's chameleon system worked because Bates did that, but Downs is better. He helps with *every problem the Bengals have*

Truly hilarious outcome from where Monken and the Browns were six years ago
ESPN Sources: the Cleveland Browns are hiring former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their next head coach.

This is the one everyone will kick themselves on. A front/pressure Miami show dozens of times on film. 4 Down Fromm (Field Bullet) with spot drop 3D/3U FZ behind it. Post safety even bites hard on Sayins first peek keeping Klare open. But Ruben Bain is an issue. That much usage is all game planning. Doesn’t matter who is physically calling the plays into the headset - that decision was made during the week to go this route in the RZ.
60% (9/15) of Ohio State’s red zone snaps last night came in either 13 or 14 personnel. Willingly taking one of your two best players (or both!) off the field in critical situations is certainly a decision that was made!

2 is the best player in college football. The two motions make him responsible for the A gap in the run fit. He picks it up, comes down, and makes the play at 2 yd. An elite S is like an elite TE. Undervalued because you don't *need* elite, but as impactful as anything

Jeremiah Smith getting bracketed seemingly every snap. Will be interesting to see if/when OSU motions him or puts him in the slot.

One way to evaluate run games in college football is to compare scheme and OL (yards before contact) with RB ability (yards after contact): Further right => Better scheme/OL Further up => Better RB talent/ability
