Man jailed for perjury and perverting the course of justice, is on Sky News talking about trust. “It’s not a mistake Margaret Thatcher would have made,” he pompously intones. Well, we all make mistakes, don’t we Jeffrey? Though most of us don’t do time for them.

Do people have trust issues with the Prime Minister? @Jeffrey_Archer shares his views on the gifts row and has some advice for Keir Starmer #KayBurley SS

Revenge of the Armada...?! Not really, it's a replica of a 17th century merchant ship. A splendid sight, now at St Katherine's Dock.

More implications of AI for journalism* and libel law? 'Honest opinion' is a key defence -- that perhaps does not apply when content is AI-generated... @richarddanbury *if it counts as journalism

Interesting. Reviewing is usually protected in libel by the defence of honest opinion. An AI, I would suggest, is incapable of having an opinion and whether or not it is honest would be impossible to determine. I look forward to the court case where an artist sues the bots.

Heartbreaking testimony of staff on ICUs having to deal with 70% mortality during the pandemic. @Kevin_Fong at the Covid inquiry.
Replying to @chrischirp
And here he breaks down while explaining the absolute trauma experienced by smaller hospitals in particular - the "healthier" ICU patients were transferred out, leaving them coping with so much death. They felt so alone.

Imagine if a BBC News presenter posted mocked-up images of a Conservative politician in Jewish religious dress, and suggested a vote for the party would lead to the Jewish takeover of Britain. Yet doing the same about Muslims gets a pass in British media bylinetimes.com/2024/06/14/g…

Sadly the preview here omits "mouse jigglers", so here's a screenshot. Although I think the term usually refers to the devices not the people? Anyway...

RT @JohnReedwrites: Reposting: this @FT style guide note banning the use of the word "compensation" for executive pay. It never gets old.…

Language here from @AP seems more like an ad or sponsored post -- strong evaluative words such as "triumphant" with no quotes or attribution?! Seems very odd, at best @APNews @JuliePace @davidfolkenflik @jackshafer Am I missing something?
Donald Trump made a triumphant return to Capitol Hill on Thursday, his first with lawmakers since the Jan.6, 2021 attacks, embraced by energized House and Senate Republicans who find themselves reinvigorated by his bid to retake the White House.

Great to see @kirkkorner's important work recognised, exposing the appalling unfairness of this largely hidden 'conveyor belt justice' system. Congrats, Tristan! We're fortunate to have had him working with some @cityjournalism MA students, too.
Last night Tristan Kirk won the 2024 Paul Foot Award for his investigation into how the "single justice procedure" makes justice impossible for people without the means or wherewithal to challenge the system, creating a conveyor belt system that has removed humanity and fairness from the law. 🎧 Listen how award night went down - including Ian Hislop's speech - in the latest Page 94 podcast: pod.fo/e/24677e

Fab metaphor here by @stephenkb -- comparing the Conservative party manifesto to "getting someone flowers from a petrol station". In his @FT newsletter, Inside Politics. Political journalism and analysis can be creative and entertaining, as well as astute.

If you’re being interviewed by a (decent) journalist and talk in generalities, you can expect to be asked about specifics…
EXCL: In his D Day interview - at a time of CCHQ’s choosing - Rishi Sunak sits down to discuss the personal & political. When asked how he can relate to voters - what he’s ever gone without - he says as a child he had to forgo “Sky TV”. 7pm @ITVTonight.

If you're a criminal, this government has sent a clear message: Hang in there, your trial will be delayed for so long that the victim and witnesses might give up. Even if convicted, the prisons are full so there's a chance of a lighter punishment.

Boris Johnson today calls Starmer “Sir Keir Schnorrer” (see attached). “Schnorrer” is the Yiddish word for beggar and scrounger. It is pretty offensive. It was part of the lingua franca of my grandparents and of my childhood. I find it unsettling to see Johnson appropriating it to describe someone whose wife is Jewish - and especially when he says “if Schnorrer gets in, he will immediately begin the process of robbing this country of its new-found independence and make the UK the punk of the EU”. What do you think? Am I being over sensitive?
