What is the greatest challenge of standing in solidarity? In this #WeConspire article, entitled "Crossing the Abyss," @JonHuckins of Journey Home explains that crossing the abyss within us is the first step to understanding and standing by others. tinyurl.com/yc3pa3fe

Politics are hard, but they are so important. As followers of Jesus, here is a guide for how we enter the voting booth today. As my friend @ntoyamaszeto says, “every vote is a prayer.” #vote #democracy #electionday #electionday2022 #peacemaking

Lou (7yrs old) looked over my shoulder & saw that US killed Al Qaeda leader Al-Zawahiri. She yelled, "Hank (her twin), look at this!" He said, "But daddy, what if that was you or me?" No matter the socio-political, kiddos point us to humanity, dignity & image of God in everyone

One week ago, Janny and I made our way into Santiago. A remarkable gift. Three years ago I journeyed here alone and bought a bracelet that says “El Camino es la Meta” (the journey is the reward). I haven’t taken it off since. When we live in our hearts, we can be home anywhere.

"It would disturb me if there was a wedding between religious fundamentalists and political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it. - Billy G." (1981) He was right. Unfortunately his leadership in 50's/60's birthed what Religious Right became.

Not everyday you drop kids at school & head to Border to welcome a dear friend (deported over decade ago) be reunited w/her daughter. Today was that day. A day we could have never imagined possible after years of crying, praying & advocating. Yolanda is home. Thx be to God!

School drop off: No parents should have palpable fear of “what if it’s our kids next?" Is it more important to protect the “freedom” of buying an AR15 or offering every parent in this country the freedom to send their kids to school without fearing they’ll return in a body bag?

Solo parenting week while wife is away for work conference. Two of our four kids (and me) have tested positive for Covid & are now in lock down. Wife left Tuesday morning & our kiddo was exposed later that day at school, so her departure was almost conspiracy level perfect. 🤔

Today, a project I’ve been working on for years is coming to life. I’m filled w/gratitude & anticipation. There will be no fanfare or promo. The details are done. It will simply require presence & vulnerability among a community on a journey toward wholeness together. A gift.

I thought that most church folk and pastors I know understand that the whole “Easter is super bowl Sunday” thing is complete crap and would be a bit more thoughtful in how we publicly talk about resurrection. I thought wrong.

Why does our (white church) empathy appear to be so much higher for migrants/refugees that look like us and share a common “enemy” (Russia)? This is the question on our partners in Tijuana are asking as they tend to the needs of people fleeing violence from all over the world.

Palm Sunday. When we discover the path of descension is the only way up. Our saving comes on a donkey of peace rather than a horse of war. And our hope isn’t found in the power of any state but in the reality of an alternative kingdom.

A few things about what's going on at Mexico/US border right now as Ukrainians flee war. 1. U.S. government is right to offer humanitarian visa's to Ukrainians. The Church is right to offer care & support. 2. That said, the racism inherent in our policy & empathy is very real.

Our hearts must break for Ukrainians. Our policies must adapt. Our support must overflow. As it should for Central Americans, Syrians and migrants from all over Africa fleeing similar violence. Our Ethic of care is incongruent and it's deeply problematic. It's racist.

What if we open our arms to Ukrainians & DOUBLE r efforts in caring for those fleeing violence in other regions? What if we support shelters offering long term care to migrants far beyond news cycle? What if we allow ourselves to deeply FEEL the pain of all impacted by violence?
