“I Flew on the Same Plane Just Hours Before It Crashed” — Akash Vatsa’s Chilling Account of Air India Flight AI171
Akash Vatsa, a passenger who flew on Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner from Delhi to Ahmedabad just two hours before the tragic crash of Flight AI171, shared a harrowing firsthand account of technical issues aboard the aircraft. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), he revealed multiple malfunctions during his earlier flight, including non-functional air conditioning, inoperative in-flight entertainment screens, unresponsive cabin crew call buttons, and faulty reading lights. Passengers were seen fanning themselves with magazines due to the lack of air conditioning.
Akash recorded and shared videos highlighting these problems, intending to alert Air India, but later deleted his posts. His experience has raised serious questions as the same aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad en route to London Gatwick, killing many onboard.
The crash occurred minutes after takeoff, with the plane reaching an altitude of approximately 825 feet before rapidly descending and crashing into a residential area near the airport. Investigations by aviation authorities are ongoing.
Akash’s video and testimony provide a rare glimpse into potential pre-existing issues on the aircraft, adding a dramatic and personal dimension to the unfolding tragedy.
