Hey @lyft this is the time it took me to install the car seat for my child. Why the hell do you think it's appropriate to charge a wait time fee for36 seconds when I was waiting for my driver at the curb
I have been deep at work with the Clockwise team building a new type of scheduler with superpowers.
We can’t (yet!) control space-time, but watch as I make time where there is none:
ALT Dear followers:
Last night, news reports indicated Elon Musk, the owner and CEO of Twitter, announced he plans to step down as Chief Executive Officer of the popular social media platform when a suitable successor is found.
We want to lay rest to any rumors that we have been considered a frontrunner for the position.
While it is true that we are experts in our field managing billions of dollars of infrastructure, maintaining a complex social network that connects a million people with hundreds of thousands of daily active users, and are well equipped to manage a seemingly endless flow of crappy content, serving the residents of Northeast Ohio as a public utility is and will always be our top priority.
Still tweeting, always treating.

In case you didn't see it yet, KIP-890 "transactions server-side defense" is amazing. Goes way beyond just fixing an issue with zombie transactions, and makes the problem go away with significant protocol improvement. - one less call to make!

Musk had an EXCELLENT PR team who for years sold us an image of a brilliant, eccentric inventor. He even bought himself cameos on The Simpsons and Big Bang Theory. But he's just a rich kid who used his dad's Apartheid money to invest in tech & take credit for other people's work.
the latest Money Stuff is a worthwhile read, if for nothing else the entertainment value of watching @matt_levine struggling to keep it together while going through the leaked FTX balance spreadsheet

ALT If you try to calculate the equity of a balance sheet with an entry for HIDDEN POORLY INTERNALLY LABELED ACCOUNT, Microsoft Clippy will appear before you in the flesh, bloodshot and staggering, with a knife in his little paper-clip hand, saying “just what do you think you’re doing Dave?” You cannot apply ordinary arithmetic to numbers in a cell labeled “HIDDEN POORLY INTERNALLY LABELED ACCOUNT.” The result of adding or subtracting those numbers with ordinary numbers is not a number; it is prison.
ALT And then the basic question is, how bad is the mismatch. Like, $16 billion of dollar liabilities and $16 billion of liquid dollar-denominated assets? Sure, great. $16 billion of dollar liabilities and $16 billion worth of Bitcoin assets? Not ideal, incredibly risky, but in some broad sense understandable. $16 billion of dollar liabilities and assets consisting entirely of some magic beans that you bought in the market for $16 billion? Very bad. $16 billion of dollar liabilities and assets consisting mostly of some magic beans that you invented yourself and acquired for zero dollars? WHAT? Never mind the valuation of the beans; where did the money go? What happened to the $16 billion? Spending $5 billion of customer money on Serum would have been horrible, but FTX didn’t do that, and couldn’t have, because there wasn’t $5 billion of Serum available to buy. FTX shot its customer money into some still-unexplained reaches of the astral plane and was like “well we do have $5 billion of this
ALT Still it is striking that the balance sheet that FTX circulated to potential rescuers consisted mostly of stuff it made up. Its balance sheet consisted mostly of stuff it made up! Stuff it made up! You can’t do that! That’s not how balance sheets work! That’s not how anything works!
Oh, fine: It is how crypto works.
Remember nights catching fireflies as a kid? Three @BucknellU undergrads helped us figure out what impacts fireflies ability to withstand bacterial infection!! First collaborative pub with @seslower is out!

I can count hundreds of execs in this industry who don't think operational excellence is real work. Here I said it, they don't have the technical capacity to understand it is real work.
Let me summon the ghost of Parler here as well: they were booted off of AWS for *not having an effective abuse management process.*
Irrevocably break Twitter's content moderation, and the cloud providers will reduce your bill to $0 for you.

Moderators closed tonight's Wisconsin Senate debate by asking each candidate to say something they find admirable about the other.
Lt. Gov Mandela Barnes (D) said Sen. Ron Johnson (R) is a "family man."
Johnson said Barnes is "against America."
The audience booed Johnson.
So the big NYT article about California high speed rail is not actually saying anything new. It's the latest from a former LA Times reporter who spent the last 12 years writing based hit pieces about the project. I shut my blog down years ago. But it's time to debunk him again.
