Story time - 'bet on yourself' 📖
Overheard two girls in the sauna say "we work to live, I'm stuck doing this job for the rest of my life."
Maybe at one point, I felt the same. Had a corporate job, was making okay money, but I just didn't feel any excitement. My work was good, but my motivation was low. Then in 2020, COVID came and I lost my job.
Yeah, shit sucked. It took me a while to start my motor again, but eventually decided that, instead of being down on myself and the situation, sitting there, wondering 'why me?', I used it as motivation. I wasn't happy in my role and now I had been gifted a golden opportunity to explore my passions. So I took a chance, went outside my comfort zone and took on a new challenge.
I had been part time streaming for a while, but had always just treated it like a hobby. I decided to give content creation a shot, full time. So I sat down, drafted out a plan, structure and goals for what I wanted to achieve.
I found myself spending hours upon hours of my time, researching, understanding and creating. It was slow at first, but then it really started to pick up steam. I researched into growing social channels and became results driven.
I spun up an account on Tik Tok, focused on streaming tips and gaming, at the time, it was very niche. In a short while I had garnered over 600k followers. All the while, I cross-posted and cross-pollenated these followers to my Twitch streams, eventually achieving Partner. I met so many amazing people that literally challenged me every day to better my content.
My drive was immense and I ended up finding myself in 2021, wanting more - I once again challenged myself to grow. I had a fascination with crypto, and wanted to bring my creator skillset to help add value to the space. Fortunately through intense networking I was able to link in with some incredible individuals and groups of people.
Fast forward to 2024, I am a free-lance web3 marketer and I get to be a creative for an emerging industry. I get to wake up in the morning and create whacky, funny, entertaining and genuinely thought provoking content for web3.
Taking a mental note, I know I have so many more goals set out to smash, but looking back, I sit here proud. I have built out my own brand, my own style and genuinely love being here every day, smashing new goals and entertaining people with my content.
It took me 3 years to go from waking up in the morning, unsure what I was doing, to leaping out of bed to tackle the day, because it's exactly what and where I want to be.
But it really only took one minute. It took one moment to change my direction. My regret, is that it took someone else to force my hand, an external factor.
Don't wait for someone else to tell you what to do with your life. Grab the bull by the horns and do something. You can change your life today, so what are you waiting for?
