One of my favorite things in life is watching my kids learn problem solving through video games.
There is no other better way for kids to learn creative problem solving than through games.
My 8 year old twin boys were playing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and they wanted to get this powerful early chest armor called Phantom armor in a large cavern.
The chest armor is guarded by a mini-boss and they died multiple times to it. So one of my boys thought of a way to use this spring device (see pic) that he found earlier to jump over the mini-boss and platforms to get to the treasure chest.
He tried it, it worked, he jumped over with the spring, then glided over to the treasure chest, got the armor and teleported out.
He proudly told me that the "cheated" to get this armor, but I corrected them and said that you did not cheat, you used what the game provides you to solve a problem, that is creative problem solving.
It was a proud dad moment but also I felt that immersive games are such a wonderful tool to teach children skills like creative problem solving. We need more of such games!
