Holy moly, what a week! We are tired. We are excited. We are grateful. We are tired: Since we formally launched an independent Capital Weather on Tuesday, after 18 years with The Washington Post, we’ve covered storms on three straight days, had two heat advisories, and reached 100 degrees in DC on Friday. We are excited: With a brand new website at CapitalWeather.com, a brand new Capital Weather app, and no paywall for our core forecasts and updates, we are already reaching so many of you with a combination of our human forecasts and convenient modern weather tools. We are grateful: Many of you have already generously contributed to help us keep essential 24/7 DC-area weather coverage free for all. Your support is what makes this possible. We can’t thank you enough. For those of you who didn’t have a chance during the week, we invite you to take a moment this weekend and check out the various ways you can support us. Options range from our “contribute what you’d like” Fan level, to monthly or annual Friend contributions, to our annual Founder level. We love our Fans, Friends, and Founders all the same! Learn more about how you can boost and sustain our independent launch at: capitalweather.com/support-u…

Excellent idea!
Costco should divide up check-out lines by the number of people the goods in your shopping cart could be expected to serve: 1-2, 2-4, 4-6, small party, total weekend rager, military battalion going into the wild for a week, small country.

Trump's 1st term health officials convinced him to make ending HIV by 2030 a major piece of his legacy — telling him he'd be known as “the public health president.” He embraced the plan in 2019...then undermined it in his 2nd term. politico.com/news/magazine/2… @meganmesserly

"States are going to be asked to make a determination using information that doesn’t exist in their systems" Still lots of confusion over whether/how frailty determinations for work requirements can be automated And states don't have the luxury of time for CMS to figure it out

I’ve had a FOIA request in for RFK Jr’s calendar since last September. Still no response.
RFK Jr. claimed his calendar, including meeting details, is public. But those records have not been released by HHS — despite more than a year of FOIA requests from @statnews reporters. More on the state of transparency at HHS, w/ @ChelseaCirruzzo statnews.com/2026/06/11/rfk-…

In February 2025, I asked HHS for two weeks' worth of Secretary Kennedy's calendar – his first 2 weeks on the job. I'm still waiting for that info.

Thx to @statnews for this piece. When I saw @SecKennedy admonish @SherylNYT, "All one needs to refute your argument is to glance at my publicly available calendar," I immediately wrote to @HHS_Spox to ask, where's the calendar? Crickets. statnews.com/2026/06/11/rfk-… via @statnews

Let’s put Robotaxis driving around the congressional grounds first, see how the Capitol Hill security apparatus reacts to that.
Scoop: Three Republican Congressmembers urged Mayor Bowser to allow robotaxis to begin driverless testing in D.C. and submit a plan for an "expedited implementation timeline."

Reminder: 1. Sunscreens expire — usually two to three years after purchase, and usually one year after they’ve been opened. So if you’re using a sunscreen on your body that you used two summers ago, you’re using an expired sunscreen. 2. Sunscreen should never be left in your car or anywhere else that gets hot. 3. Stop mixing your sunscreens with other things before applying them. You’re not a cosmetic chemist.
