Fable isn't the first.
In 1999 the department of defense blocked exports of the PowerMac G4 for crossing the 1 gigaflop threshold.
Steve Jobs turned it into an ad.
Assuming Anthropic is able to restore Fable in the next few days, there's literally zero point doing any meaningful work until it is back.
What can be done in 100 hours with Opus can be done in 1 with Fable.
Hopefully this is figured out quickly.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

It's 20B parameters.
It's fully Apple designed. It is an MoE but when it processes the prompt, it only loads the parameters needed and locks them in.
If it's 20B parameters total, but on a specific request it's only 1-4B parameter total. It only loads in 1-4B for inference and decides them at prefill time.
It is fully Apple designed architecture, Google had nothing here.
