π¨Numbers donβt lie. Violent crime surged under KLBπ¨
The facts are simple. The country saw a surge in violent crime starting in 2019 through 2020 and carrying into 2021. We saw a national increase of roughly 30% in homicides across all major cities, the highest increase in a century! And an 11-12% increase in aggravated assaults. Most scholars and analysts agree the violent surge was in part connected to the Covid pandemic. But when compared to the dozens of other major cities Atlanta stands out. Why?
Because Atlanta saw 84% increase in homicides, nearly 2.8 times the national average while KLB was in office! The 58% figure cited in the video was just a single year increase. But from 2018 when she took office until she left, Atlanta experienced an 84% total increase in murders and a 22% increase in aggravated assaults, almost double the national figure. The reason citizens in Atlanta felt like it was a bloody war zone while she was in office was because compared to everywhere else it was!
But donβt take my word for it. Iβve included sources & links to ten (but there are more) of the most commonly cited sources in academic, policy, and journalistic discussions of the 2020 crime surge. Research the data for yourself.
