This week, DHS waived every one of our nation's most important environmental laws to bulldoze new border barriers and roads through Big Bend National Park. This marks the first time in U.S. history these laws have been waived in a national park. With these laws gutted and a $1.7 billion construction contract already issued, very little stands in the way of DHS contractors plowing into the park, permanently destroying countless archeological sites, blocking off river access and turning this peaceful national park into an industrial construction zone. We will continue to fight this project every step of the way... more on that soon. Audio from NPR's fantastic Studio 1A program, which aired across the country last week.

Talarico: Here's what real men don't do. They don't lie and cheat their way through life. They don't sell their soul to the highest bidder. Real men serve others, weak men serve themselves. So I welcome this debate. I don't think Paxton or Cruz are in a position to tell anyone what a real man is.

Jesse Jackson to children on Sesame Street: "I am somebody. I may be poor, but I am somebody. I may be young, but I am somebody. I may be on welfare, but I am somebody... My clothes are different. My face is different. My hair is different, but I am somebody."

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life fighting for equity and justice. He taught us that even in the face of intimidation and discrimination, we must never stop working towards a better future – a lesson that feels especially relevant today. Change has never been easy. It takes persistence and determination, and requires all of us to speak out and stand up for what we believe in. As we honor Dr. King today, let’s draw strength from his example, and do our part to build on his legacy.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Except it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we pull it in the direction of justice. What keeps me hopeful during times like these is being surrounded by people who are doing just that.

12 hours ago, we announced a kickoff rally for our Senate campaign. 1,800 people showed up. This is how we win Texas.

Learned something new today.
Some words go together like jelly and peanut butter… wait, that sounds super weird. A pair of words that is used in a fixed order in an idiomatic expression is called an ā€˜irreversible binomial.’ ā€˜Peanut butter and jelly’ is an example of an irreversible binomial. šŸ§µā¬‡ļø

This summer, I’ve been participating in an online book club for teachers. We read this book. I think the ideas in it are very interesting and I think the science behind it is fascinating. Kids are different today and we need to teach them differently.

I think this is a great middle grade/high school read. It’s about the perils of social media without being preachy. I think it gives a realistic look into how it affects kids and the lives of their parents.

Last week 2025 STAAR test results dropped in TX & one thing is clear: A rigged STAAR is setting up schools & districts for TAKEOVER. Ex: 50% of 3rd graders got a ZERO on the typed essay. When 50% get a 0, there’s something wrong w/the test, not the kid.🧵

A game to foster creativity in students. Use a category (food, place, animal) each group needs to come up with an answer that begins with a certain letter. Foods that begin with P for example. Point to teams with different answers emphasizing creativity. notjustchildsplay.blogspot.c…

BREAKING: Texas lawmakers passed a bill that bans broad categories of books in public school libraries and puts school boards — instead of trained librarians — in charge of deciding what students can read. S.B. 13 is unconstitutional and leaves Texas students at a disadvantage.

One of my favorite parts of teaching Kindergarten is seeing the progress the students make in writing. Many of them go from just making squiggles to being able to express themselves in complete sentences. notjustchildsplay.blogspot.c…
