Finally made it out to a board game night at @GamePointCafe! Met some lovely people, had a tasty grilled cheese sandwich, and learned/played 2 fun games. #longshot #splendor #boardgames

Ran a game of You Awaken in a Strange Place today. Beautiful chaos. I haven’t laughed that hard in who knows how long. @FLoaBComic #ttrpg #yasp

Played and absolutely chaotic game of The Quiet Year last night. I’d been wanting to try this one out for forever. Loved it! #ttrpg #thequietyear

I know I’m a tabletop person, not an app person, but I must talk about a frustrating game design choice… F2P fishing app. Nice graphics, good chill time. EXCEPT. Sometimes you catch garbage, which takes up room in your very limited inventory, 1/2

And it costs in-game currency to go to the harbor to sell fish, so you throw out the trash. And then the in-game narration SHAMES YOU FOR LITTERING. It’s infuriating. I hate it. Whyyyyyy would you design a game like this

You might say, ‘realism! It’s an argument for financial incentives for green behaviors!’ But 1) that’s not the game’s focus, and 2) my full boat can only hold 5 potato chip bags. Realism clearly isn’t the goal here.
I see a lot of “senior designer” jobs posted by tabletop gaming companies. Where the heck are the “junior designer” jobs? The few entry-level postings they are still want at least 2 years of experience, if not 5 . Is it all through internships? Networking?

I’m primarily a TT game designer, but, as a fan of immersive entertainment, and having just finished a good escape room, lemme just say: practical effects>screens 100% of the time. Use screens when you can’t use practical, but if it can be practical, PLEASE make it practical

Nothing quite like completing a task and getting to watch a physical puppet go down a physical zip line above your head

And this is part of why my least favorite room at @TheEscapeGame is Mission to Mars. So much of it is watching a person on a screen tell you a pre-recorded message. So many of us spend so much time looking at screens. Physical interaction is part of the escapism of escape rooms
For no reason in particular, now feels like a great time to remind y’all that I’m on Instagram @/julesdoesgames and TikTok @/julesdoesstuff
To work on the sell sheet for my existing game or the prototype for my new one… that is the question #boardgamedesign

1 tweet larp idea: Picture of my Dress -pick an item that is portable, sentimental, and has pos and neg memories associated with it -plan a day trip. You have exactly 1 playthrough of PomD by @mountain_goats to plan -go! Take your item, get lost, take pics of it, feel feelings

Being extra flexible with the term ‘larp’ here, just ‘game’ might fit better since you’re not playing a character. But you get my vibe
Okay, I’m about to get on a 2hr 45min flight. I’m gonna challenge myself to come up with a game during the flight. 1 concept, due at landing. Now accepting random words in the replies for inspiration 🤓

I spent the first while of the flight brainstorming card ideas for a TCG based on the music of @mountain_goats so I would call that a concept and say I succeeded. But I’m even more excited about a couple back-to-back breakthroughs I had on another game I’m working on!
What if I casually wrote a game based on The Mountain Goats

(Ignore the fact that I need to work on pitching Petri Dash or developing Unnamed Space Influencers Game, don’t worry about it, it’s fInE)
