Saying ‘no’ in science isn’t enough. Stop asking mainly women for volunteer work. Although those efforts can boost the team’s productivity, they are unrewarded and the scientist’s career would have enjoyed a greater boost with more time on research! nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

There is tremendous risk in repeatedly analyzing data as it comes in… For example, in the absence of any effect, the p-values of repeated t-tests on a growing dataset will randomly walk between 1 and 0! Thanks to @lakens for inspiring this simulation! #RStats #dataviz

My colleagues at the @snsf_ch just published another interesting data story! They compare the success rate of women and men in project funding and specifically account for several confounding variables. The results show: women and men have equal chances to obtain project funding!
Current data show: gender has no significant effect on project funding decisions at the SNSF. In the #SNSFDataStories we show how we take account of gender-specific confounders in #gender monitoring. sohub.io/omb4

Due to Switzerland’s current status as a non-associated third country in #HorizonEurope, the Swiss government has mandated the SNSF to launch the SNSF Starting Grants 2023. The call opens on 1.11.22. The submission deadline is 1.2.2023.

More than a year setting up @bridges2022, to spend an amazing week learning about #genderdiversity and #genderissues with amazing people. I do not have words for the excellent team I was working with (not all in the picture), or for the new colleagues I met. Long Life to BRIDGES!

"It is good to see research-informed innovation in grant-giving — even a decade ago, it is highly unlikely that lotteries would have become part of the conversation. That they have now, is in large part down to research." A brilliant editorial in @Nature nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

Manon Fauvelais presenting our work (together with @juliajerke & others) at the @bridges2022 - and showing how mothers in science profit from having a partner in science. 👏🏼 great job! 👏🏼 #collaborativecouples #motherhoodpenalty

Very excited to share this photo which was taken during @juliajerke talk, presenting our work on #intersectionaldiscrimination with data from the @SurveyAcademics at the @bridges2022 where we chaired a session on #doingintersectionality.

Massive status bias in peer review. 534 reviewers randomized to review the same paper revealing the low status, high status, or neither author. 65% reject low status, 23% reject high status. Amazing work by Juergen Huber and colleagues. #prc9

How do researchers justify questionable research practices and misconduct? Our team member @AntoniaVelicu successfully gave a talk dealing with this question at the International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators, Granada #STI2022GRX
Thank you for the opportunity of presenting our work 🤩

Who is #SurveyAcademics? @juliajerke originally started as a PhD student in the project and has now continued as a postdoc for two years. She works on various aspects of #responsiblescience. Since August, she is also working as a statistician at @snsf_ch #MeetTheTeam

Our paper on what PhD students expect about the academic job market - and how providing information can impact their beliefs - is now up at the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization: sciencedirect.com/science/ar… Thanks to @k_langin for covering it today in @ScienceCareers! 1/6

As a #PhD student, I had no idea how many graduates went on to nonacademic careers. That seems to be changing as more programs collect data. But knowing the numbers isn't enough, a new study suggests. My latest for @ScienceCareers. #AcademicTwitter science.org/content/article/…

This should not come as a surprise at all. The lack of long-term perspectives and job security combined with the low chance of a permanent professorship... "postdocs worldwide are re-assessing their value and their futures" nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

We happily share some more #factsandfigures about the #SurveyAcademics: Overall, 15'972 scientists from 236 universities in the #DACHregion took the survey. More than half of them are from Germany. In all countries, around 55% of the respondents are male and 44% are female.
