Infiltration > Haunting. 🌸🔥🎎 . My newest yōkai enters quietly, descends to the deepest level, and releases tear gas. Copious amounts. . Not to destroy, but to make way for the destroyer… at such a time as this.

“Esuteru” was created in Tokyo as part of my modern yōkai series combining echoes of ancient cultures mixed with modern warriors. . If she feels familiar, she might be yours. . Fine art prints are now available in my store (link in bio) . #hinamatsuri #girlsday #esther #hadassah

2025 was probably the year with the most changes of my life lately. We moved to Japan, navigated (and are still navigating) so many challenges and yet so many wonderful things. 🌸 I only got to paint one mural (at @misostillwater in Stillwater, OK) which was a lovely experience.

🎨 For the first time in about a decade, I didn’t paint in any festivals (I didn’t really find any to apply to, neither was I invited.) A year of both regress and progress, I am grateful for the bright things and lovely people in both continents. 🌏🌎

To the Canadian investment group who acquired Meguro Gajoen, please don’t change too much in this place. It’s not just a hotel, it’s a treasured piece of history that withstood so many stories of the War and afterward; there’s nothing else like it.

We were all so very sad to say goodbye to Gajoen today. And, I don’t have the heart to tell my grandmother that it’s going away, so I just won’t. Please take good care of this place. #megurogajoen #tokyogajoen #tokyohistory #sadday

The staff at Gajoen were so utterly kind, sending my grandma personal heartfelt birthday messages and gifts every year to her nursing home in West Tokyo, because she isn’t well enough to make the trek to Meguro to see Gajoen one last time. (She’s 103, so we can’t blame her!)

It’s a place our family has spent much treasured time, being able to step back in history to my grandma’s stories. She was even the (hand 🤣) model for one of the paintings near the top of Hyakudan Kaidan, when she became friends with the famous artist who created those works.

It’s because of this place that my grandma says there’s no excuse not to wear kimono… she wore it every day running up and down the 99 stairs, serving guests on the Hyakudan-Kaidan, since it was a banquet hall at that time.

It’s the place where my grandmother worked after winning a spot among a crowd of interviewees that stretched all the way up Gyōnin-Zaka all the way up to Meguro Station.

I’m working remotely in my Japan home office, facing a valley with lots of houses. The sound of the neighbor’s TV (watching sumo!) filters in gently along with a crisp autumn breeze. I love Japan! 🇯🇵

In chaos, quiet. In darkness, life. Our peace cannot be disturbed.

I wasn’t planning on selling these originals in my own collection because I love them so much. However, I’m going back to Tokyo for awhile and can’t take them with me. They will be available to order this month only before they go to storage. . Link in bio. . #artforsale
