Three nights running now for Convolvulus Hawk-moths on the Nicotiana (Portsoy, VC94). At least two individuals but visits are periodic so perhaps several could have moved through.

3 Clifden Nonpareil this morning to light in the same Poplar stand @MarkCubitt and I had them last year. East Lothian.

Last saturday night I joined the recent migrant moth bonanza with five Convolvulus Hawk-moth, Small Mottled Willow and Delicate to my garden light trap in East Lothian.

The Old Lady of North Berwick have now been and gone for 2024.
At first I bemoaned how few there were, following a couple of yrs with bumper counts.
But looking at the data (red line) 🤓 this year wasn't that bad!

Caterpillar of Holly blue butterfly (Celastrina argiolus) on Ivy flower buds today at Lauriston Farm #Edinburgh - the typical feeding damage is visible - the larva makes a small hole in each bud and eats out the nutritious flower developing within

These three Poplar hawkmoth caterpillars were taking advantage of the recently planted Sallows at Lauriston Farm - not particularly well concealed as they were the yellow green colour form on grey green leaves @CoopEdinburgh #chonk #agroforestry #Edinburgh
