With profound sadness, I must convey the untimely departure of Professor @DionDionysiou. As a revered colleague at the Academy of #UrbanWaterSECURITY and a cherished friend, his absence will be deeply felt. I grieve for the loss of a man of such intellectual stature and warm companionship. Dion’s contributions have left an indelible mark, and his work will undoubtedly continue to inspire current and future generations of researchers. #CiaoDion

A great story about the difficulties of removing PFAS from outdoor products. Dealing with reduced performance and a one size doesn't fit all DWRs. Patagonia is one of the few companies makimg an effort. patagonia.com/stories/say-go… #thecleanestline #patagoniastories via @patagonia

Disappointing to see textile companies still using PFAS durable water repellents (DWRs) when safer alternatives exist. I think a lot of it stems from their ignorance about what they are using and what is safe. Here is a fitting example from @tombihn, a bag manufacturer (1/6)

Some companies like @patagonia are now using PFAS-free DWRs, but even they admit they cannot avoid their use with critical pieces like raingear. They state they are working on that as well though. (5/6)

Ironic that many of the companies using PFAS DWRs are outdoor companies with products used by environmental enthusiasts. Many companies are trying to improve (pfascentral.org/pfas-free-pr…), but where are big companies like @thenorthface @Columbia1938 @Nike etc. at? (6/6)

Yes, please. And if taken seriously, then the student's future relies on the skills of the letter writer, which may be awfully bad. Opinion | No More Letters of Recommendation! chronicle.com/article/no-mor…

Please share! Great opportunity to get research experience, especially for undergrads wanting to go to graduate school. I've hosted numerous NDnano fellows and will likely have some cool project opportunities this summer.

Hey organic chemists. Compounds like PFOS don't contain any C-H bonds, but everyone calls them organic. Are we violating organic chemistry "laws?" If I replace one F with an H, does it become organic? If I have a COF compound, can I call that a volatile organic fluorine?

My son began daycare in March. Here are the top 5 sicknesses he's given me: 5. Cold 4. Sore throat 3. Flu 2. Stomach virus on steroids. 8 hrs straight hugging the porcelain, what could top that... 1. HFMD. This can go back to the depths of hell from which it came. Vaccine please

I'm thinking that will never be topped unless Ebola is commonly passed around daycares. I'm also thinking if HFMD were COVID then we'd have a much higher vaccination rate.
