I worked on the iPad app for this project, so I’ve been telling anyone who’ll listen ever since: Benjamin Renner is a genius. This is the student film he made before directing Ernest & Celestine.

Fun fact: in 2012, I directed and designed the website for Ernest & Celestine.
At the time, the production team was animating sequences entirely in Adobe Flash. Flash handled the vector animation side of things, while the final look was achieved through post-production.
Because they shared the original Flash files with us, we could separate everything into layers and rebuild scenes interactively for the web. We ended up creating mouse-reactive parallax environments, blending 2D and 3D within the same scene, all while keeping pristine image quality thanks to vector rendering. Each animated element was essentially playing back as its own image sequence layer.
Back then, working on websites for films was the closest I thought I’d ever get to the movie industry, and honestly I loved every second of it.
Later on, I also directed the website for The Congress by Ari Folman, along with several other Belgian co-productions. Most of those projects ended up winning a lot of awards for pushing the limits of what was possible on the web at the time.
This isn’t my first rodeo. I also feel old these days 🙂
2 years of work compressed in 1 minute 🥲. I did this video because today is a very special day: the Stunt Xpress Demo has just launched on Steam! 🥳We can't wait to hear what you think of it! 💙 (🔊) #GodotEngine#indiedeveloper#indiegaming
