Trump spent billions and took thousands of lives to discover what people with sense were trying to tell him, which is that you won't defeat Iran with bombs, but you will open a Pandora's Box of global economic mayhem. Of course he ended it to get gas prices down before midterms.

This is cool. As much as I would have loved to see them go out on top, winning and accolades raining down. we don't get to decide how a sporting icon wants their story to end. Jordan had the Wizards, Iniesta had Kobe. Let the Williams sisters do their thing.

And on the same day FIFA does a U-turn and will allow journalists to ask questions in Spanish.

Now I understand why it was so noisy across the way. Our building is only a short distance from a Cabo Verdean restaurant that is, apparently, hosting watch parties.

I had one of the most beautifully Portuguese things happen today, while trying to buy a bicycle cockpit. The guy at Decathlon said, "We have three, but I have to consult with my colleague to see if we can sell one to you. I will send you an e-mail." I just smiled and said thanks.

It will never not be funny that the one game the Knicks lost in the past month was the one Trump attended.

Maybe for this World Cup the FIFA acronym, in all its Frenchness, can be changed to TTSF (Them There Soccer Folks).
🚨🗣️New: Thierry Henry reacts to the Brazil, Morocco, and Netherlands press conferences, where questions in Spanish were reportedly not permitted for Hakimi, Vinícius Jr., and Frenkie de Jong: “I have covered World Cups for years, and this situation makes absolutely no sense to me. You’re telling me a World Cup co-hosted by Mexico can stop journalists from asking questions in Spanish? That’s like hosting a Formula 1 race and banning cars from using their engines. We saw it with Hakimi. We saw it with Vinícius. Now we’re hearing similar stories involving Frenkie de Jong. The players understood the questions. The journalists spoke one of the most widely spoken languages on the planet. Yet somehow the language became the problem. Gianni Infantino talks about inclusion, diversity, and bringing football to everyone. Fine. Then explain this contradiction. How can FIFA celebrate diversity in every promotional video and then create headlines because Spanish journalists are being told to switch languages at a tournament hosted by Mexico? Spanish isn’t some obscure dialect spoken by a handful of people. It’s the language of hundreds of millions across the Americas and beyond. If a journalist from Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, or anywhere else asks a question in Spanish and the player understands it, why is football creating barriers where none existed? The irony is unbelievable. FIFA keeps telling us football belongs to everyone, but this controversy has many fans asking whether some voices are more welcome than others. Maybe there’s a logistical explanation. Maybe it’s a translation issue. But perception matters. And right now the perception is terrible. Because what fans are seeing is simple: a World Cup hosted partly by a Spanish-speaking nation, players who understand Spanish, journalists who speak Spanish, and officials telling them not to use Spanish. If that’s progress, somebody needs to explain it better. Because from the outside, it looks like football’s governing body is tripping over its own message.” “FIFA wanted a celebration of diversity. Instead, they’ve handed the internet a controversy that won’t stop being discussed.”

Between the visa bond, the digital surveillance requirements, and the 74 percent rejection rate, the Trump administration has made it nearly impossible for Senegalese fans and journalists to attend the World Cup africasacountry.com/2026/06/…

This is fantastic. Not sure many recall the comments of Aitana Bonmati about needing a break right before the injury that sidelined her. Support staff are important for players, and mirroring the men's team structure for that is top, top stuff. mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc…

For anyone in the market, I am quite impressed with the Galaxy Watch 8 as a fitness/health device. All the wearables are good watches, but it has layers that the Pixel watch misses. The only functions not available with a non-Samsung device are gestures, EKG and blood pressure.

I went for the 44mm model, which fits my wrist quite well. Also worth noting that the M/L band on the Galaxy watch, for those of you like me with big bones, is significantly longer than the L band of the Pixel watch. That also makes it more comfortable for me.

Battery life is not as good, lasting me about a day and a half with the always on display, and tracking two workouts a day, gym for 90 minutes and cycling for 3h . The Pixel was good for almost two days. I can't quibble about that as it's a better overall product.
