This is my daughter Sophie Dennington - I’m so proud of her. She started reffing at 15 years old. She struggled so much in school and at age 13 she had the reading and spelling age of a 7 year old. With the help of her school she managed to pass her GCSE’s. She was diagnosed with Dyslexia but she still got her dream. She’s running the line for the FA Cup Womens Final! A perfect example of how important shin pads are in matches AND training! A complete accident today as I coached my U11’s match today - a loose ball in the box, my son ran on to shoot, opposition attempted to block with a slightly raised foot and studs hit shin. Thank god for shin pads, the crack was loud enough for touchline supporters to hear, initially I worried it was his leg. Fortunately the shin pads did their job! As a club, and as a coach of 2 teams, we enforce the rule that pads must be worn for training and matches. This is a perfect example for anyone that chooses to ignore it or wear the miniscule pads, the outcome could’ve been very different!
