I just told an 8th grade class that they worked really well today and that I was proud of them. A student replied that it made him really happy to hear that. I clearly need to compliment my students more often.

In 8th grade physical science class, we read The Martian, and the main character grows potatoes to live off of, so we watch a potato grown throughout the year. Students have never seen this before. It’s shocking. I’m about to plant this year’s potato.
