This is a bit misleading — in 2019, the ruling in Graveline v. Benson reduced the number of required sigs for non-affiliated candidates to 12,000. In current guidance from the Bureau of Elections on filing requirements, it specifies that the Graveline ruling replaced the MCL.
This can't be legal! It takes 2x as many signatures for an Independent to get on the ballot than a Democrat or a Republican. (Spoiler: It's because they wrote the rules.) Want to help me get on the ballot and give voters a third choice? Go to MikeDuggan.com and get your petition packet.

It's special election day in Michigan! I'll be up in Saginaw later today to speak with voters and talk to candidates about this race, which will determine control of the Senate for the rest of 2026 and is considered by many a bellwether for November.
