The front page of tomorrow's @dailytarheel – I shed many tears while typing up these heart-wrenching text messages sent and received by UNC students yesterday. Our campus was on lockdown for more than three hours. Beyond proud of this cover and the team behind it.

The private equity-owned anesthesia group billed Medicare 1.5 years after services were provided, so Medicare denied the claim. You might think the group would just eat the cost... but instead, they sent the bill to collections. kffhealthnews.org/MTcyNTMzMg via @kffhealthnews

As a 3rd yr med student, I got the unsolicited (enraging, gendered) advice that going into surgery would make me a "bad wife & bad mom." 60% of participants delayed childbearing due to demands of medical training; >75% regretted this decision at least 'a little bit'.
Physicians face burdens with family-building, including regretting delaying childbearing, worse well-being, and among ART users a greater likelihood of therapy utilization and reporting relationship strain. @MorganSLevy@FutureDocs @arghavan_salles ja.ma/44S0Ljm

Great presentation by @C_Flanagan_MD highlighting that women with aortic ectasia progress more rapidly to repair. Are our current surveillance guidelines appropriate for women? NB: These guidelines are informed by trials of mostly male patients. #VAM23 @UCSFvascular @KPDOR

So Merck has sued the Biden administration over the drug negotiation provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act. What’s it arguing? And are those arguments any good? The complaint is here: documentcloud.org/documents/…

Some interesting ideas on how to shape Medicare's drug price negotiations such that we get the right medicines to patients, save tax dollars, and still maintain incentives for innovation. Four ways to make drug price negotiations work for everyone  thehill.com/opinion/healthca…

“There’s definitely places where atherectomy is very helpful,” said Dr. @CaitlinWHicks, an associate professor of surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. “But it’s definitely being used inappropriately, and that’s when bad things happen.” propub.li/428c0Cs

We, voters, have to push for this change. Until we do, we are going to see this: “a woman who sought his care for excessive leg itching and said he tried to pressure her into an invasive artery scan.” Although “her itching likely stemmed from a reaction to an insect bite”

And this: His clinic "was not like other surgical centers. In its entrance stood a juice bar that could serve cold-pressed drinks... Crystal chandeliers adorned its hallways... And >12 original modern paintings lined its walls, making it feel like an art gallery." Yikes 😬
