Washington state's new Income Tax is about to have yet another casualty.
Venice A.I. founder @jesseproudman tells KOMO's Joel Moreno: "I have been out of state looking at other houses as well. It's just not a friendly jurisdiction to be in, when you are villainized for being an entrepreneur here."
No argument there.
Joel Moreno spells it out even more plainly:
"If wealthy job creators do leave, so too will the revenue the [income] tax is supposed to collect."
And guess who the next target of the income tax will be when that happens..

Seattle's mayor waved "bye" to residents fleeing from the new 9.9% Millionaire’s Tax.
She thinks it's funny. History disagrees. France tried a 75% millionaire tax in 2012. Depardieu fled to Belgium. 60,000 millionaires left over 15 years. They scrapped it after two years — it raised almost nothing.
New York did the same thing. Now Hochul's literally asking "how do we get them back?"
You cannot tax people who already left, bestie

The instructions they provided for migration weren't just unclear... they were straight up wrong.
When I went to create an account... "email already taken"
But I'm a smart guy so then I went through "forgot my password" flow, which also didn't work.

Our CSM played around with the copycat app a bit and said:
"With all the buttons they copied from our UI which are straight up non-functional, I'm astounded this app made it through Shopify approval"
This is the real question @ShopifyDevs!
If cheap AI copycats continue to be approved in the Shopify App Store, merchants will no longer be able to trust the App Store.
Helium has been building Shopify apps for 12 years, but Shopify will approve new apps that are carbon copies of our apps, and what recourse do we have?

Helium's ARPU is under $23. We've had several customers tell us we don't charge enough, and maybe that's true. We're just a small, bootstrapped company trying to make reliable and useful Shopify Apps. 😅

Respect to the Shopify developers who built the ecosystem over the last decade. But merchants are sick of paying big fees and rev shares for apps that are easier than ever to build. If it can be copied that easily, maybe the moat was never that real.
